New Owner, New Poster

Well, I went out and bought a jet black 1988 325is this morning. I paid $3700 for it. Its got 120k miles under its belt. The car truely is a beauty and drives like a champ. Im new to the BMW world and I'd just like a noob run through. Even though its probly been posted hundreds of times, what is the easiest, cheapest, largest way to gain power from the engine while not going forced induction? And the e30 is a 4 bolt pattern, on 6 1/2 inch wheels, whats the widest rubber these can use? 205s? And if going to a little bigger tires wont be that great of a difference what would it run to either do a 5 bolt conversion or try finding wider 4 bolt wheels? And lastly this seems to be the best (only) bmw forum ive found. Any other good support or product sites out there?

OK. So you would like to gain HP without using forced induction ? You could always go with a Performance computer chip, an exhaust and an air intake. You should be able to get about probably 20-25 HP all together. And try to get it from www.kormanfastbmw.com And I think they also have a turbo kit for your car.

How about DinanBMW? Ive only heard the best about them and they arnt a small no name company. Anyway from what people have told me getting an exhaust will be the a very small increase for the quite expensive cost. I suspect that this is from the very generous stock dual 1.5" (so it looks) piping all the way. Most dual exhausts merge however this stays seperate. On dinan they have dyno results, which i am sure must be a little biased, that show a 40 hp/trq increase with their manifold and chip for the e30. I feel that this would be a good start but that a major limiting factor would be the small throttle body. Any comments on my opinions would be greatly appriciated. Also a question about the stock air filter box. It seems incredibly ineffecient. A flat filter in a box that is in very cramped area. There is an intake tube but it goes to the back of the head light. Today i tryed to open the box but its in such a hard place i cant even imagine how to remove it. Any hints tips? Id like to have a good placed cone K&N filter. Is that $150 kit worth it?

go with dinan, they make the best parts for bmw, you may pay a little more but you are definitely getting quality parts. go with the cold air intake, the chip, exhaust, headers. that should give you a start

dinan doesnt advertise a cold air intake for the e30.... only parts they do is shocks intake manifold, exhaust and chip. Do they make one? and how much will it be? Ive seen a lot of others, they are all around $250 and they come with a engine bay seperator, but they arent really cold air intakes. they are just short rams. Is it worth the $250? And what happens to the stock air flow sensor? It is mounted on/in the stock airbox? Does a new one come included?
