Anybody had the fun of pulling the tank to replace the fuel pump? I'm wondering why the shop time is so high?
Any info or links are appreciated. The repair is too expensive to pay for & I've got to decide if I'm going to try this project or unload the vehicle, & I have to make a decision pretty quick.
Thanks, Dan

Ok, I see a 1993 Bravada in your profile. I haven't done my '92 yet but I think Eric has on his '92.

I did go through the posts that I could find on this site & found several which deal with years from '92 to '97, & it sounds pretty standard, ie drop the tank, maybe a tool to get to disconnect lines/wires, then take out the pump assemby.
Am I missing something that would cause them to rate this as $700 labor & $400 part??? :runaround:

On my wifes 92 I went and had a mechanic do it. at $75 an hour he did it parts and labor for a little over $200. The 92 has a repairable pump on depending on vin so I didn't have to get the whole unit. About 2 hours labor plus parts.
You don't need to take it to the dealer, find a reasonably priced private shop. You can find mechanic referals and ratings by customers by zip code at CarTalk.com

I had my fuel pump replaced. The guy that did it owns a body shop. He told my son it was the hardest pump he ever replaced. Very hard to get to everything to undo. The price to buy the pump and replace it was around $400. This was on a 99.

i did my own pump on my 2000 i am not a mech. the total time took me about 4 hrs and that was replacing the fuel lines too, it is really not that hard to do.
