Ok so my car has been acting up as of late. I thought that it was my tps but now I am having second thoughts. Frodo helped my out with understanding the tps a little more. My car (88 crx dx auto 1.5 dpfi) Has been jumping and surging. It acts like it is being starved of something fuel....air.....something. It will do it both while driving and while sitting at idle. It hardly ever throws a the CEL, and the one time it did it threw the tps and a oxygen sensor. Here is the deal though when it is acting up and I unplug either of the two sensors, the car runs worse and then the CEL pops on. It is very cold right now in iowa and I do not have a garage so my tests have been very liminted. The car starts perfect everytime. I also have noticed that it gets worse about half way to or home from college or around town (about 15miles). My other big big isssue Is my exhaust. I have never had very good exhaust it has always been riddled with holes. It has finally fallen off so I just have the downpipe and the cat. I know this is not good and I have exhaust ordered, Could this be the cause of my problems? It did this with the holy exhaust on, it may have gotten a little worse when it fell off.
1.Is unpluging the sensors a good test?
2. I have thought about the IACV that I have heard people talk about, but I have no idea where it is.
3.To me the car is running bad enough that the CEL chould pop on, but it rarely does. Why would this be?
4. Any thing else that
Sorry about the book to any one who has read this far.
And thanks in advance to anyone who can offer me any help like I said I am now lost.

Sounds like a vacuum leak really. The eacv really only controls idle speeds.

Holy cow Frodo that was fast thanks....A vacuum leak hmmm. I had thought of that too and have checked for them but haven't really found any. Are there any spots where they are most common? Also could the lack of exhaust cause any problems?

Also a vacuum leak is that something that would generally tend to get worse after the car warms up? 15-20 miles or when it is driven 5-10 shut off then started back up?

Well it could..but not usually. If its only when the car is warm then the eacv would be a more likely culprit. You can take it off and clean it out relatively easily. Otherwise I would say take starter fluid and spray the vacuum lines with a light mist..if your idle changes or fluctuates, youve found the leak. The leak is usually the one running to the map sensor but Ive had one in my brake booster (only when I pressed really hard on the pedal) and in other lines. Your best bet is to just spend like 15 bucks and replace them all, buy the right sized tubing from an auto parts store and do it right. At least then you'll have piece of mind. Clean out your eacv and go from there.

Ok now i'm sounding dumb....I did a search and could not find info on the location of the iacv hmmm.....I have no idea I found this http://www.superhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144463 hmm but I cannot find it on my car, possibly a different engine? Could you please point me in the right location?
I really really appreciate it

hmmm.....well unfortunately i cleaned it out with tb cleaner and it didn't make a bit of difference, actually it wasn't all that dirty. Any more suggestions yet again after about 15 miles or so it started to jerk and bog and stutter really bad. Also how do i clear the Check light on the computer?
I think my next step will be the exhaust and when i get it into my aunts garage i will look more throughly for a vacuum leak.
Ne one else had this problem or have any input?
I am kind of leaning back towards a tps i dunno it just seems like it may be possibly effecting my shifting of the tranny.

You can clear the codes on your ecu by pulling the 10A hazard fuse in the underhood fuse box for about 10 sec.
