:screwy: Starting problem: Had battery checked, mechanic said good battery.
Then suspected it may be the distributor but...? If I hook up the battery
to my funky charger, even for 10 minutes, it registers charged...then
I can start car fine. BUT, the next day, the starter turns over but
it won't start again ... until I put the battery on recharge again for those
few minutes. Does this sound like alternator or some odd thing these
sensitive electrical systems puzzle the owner with. Do you think
disconnecting the battery "trick" first would be a good idea (for some
sensitive reset mechanism, maybe?) I'm not very car knowledgeable
but I am willing to learn. Any help will be mucho appreciated!

I'd get a second opinion on the fortitude of the battery. If the battery is good, check out the alternator. Then the cable leads to / from the battery to the alternator and the ground wire to the frame of the 5-er.
