Great F'ing Saturday!! 2/22/03 @ ~2:45P
I had just gotten the car its monthly detail and was on my way home, when I decided to cruise Old Town Pasadena. While making a left at Wilson onto Colorado, I noticed an '02 <-? silver S2000 (I don't know these cars very well).
Anyways I got stuck behind the car and it kept revving at me at every light. I felt like playing so I made it a point to stay on the guy's ass. he was swerving between lanes and I kept chase. I switched lanes to get next to the guy and my lane put me a few cars ahead. While I passed him, I took note of his front 1/4 panel stickers, NOS, eibach, and a few other I hadn't seen before. We made it thru old-town and I switched lanes to be in front of him. I made a right at the end of the strip (N. Pasadena Ave.) to get onto the 210W.
fun part freeway
He followed ...... it's ON! We caught the light before the on ramp (he was behind me). Looking thru my rear view, I see his trunk pop up and his passenger run out <to open the bottle I assume (for a second I thought they were switching drivers, then I thought Oh fU(k )! >. The light turned green and I didn't wait for his passenger to get back in. I got on the freeway got to the leftmost lane and kept it at 80mph and waited. We went about 1/2 a mile before traffic opened up enough for a semi-descent run. I caught him in my rearview coming up fast. I waited till he was about two cars back then hit it. He got up to my door then I started pulling. I went to 120 before I hit the curve at the Washington exit and laid off. I took him by about 3 cars. I went down to 80 and switched lanes to the right. He came up on my left and hit it again. I switched lanes behind him. He had about 2 cars by the time I punched it. I reeled him in and shadowed him 1/2 a car back (too much traffic on the slow lanes to pass). He went to 110 before he let off.
We coasted down to ~65 and moved to the right lanes. I rolled down the window and said " Good run man, you want to run them from a stop." He pointed and motioned to go ahead. I went ahead and we got off on Angeles Crest Hwy. They tailed me a few cars back. I wanted them to move in to the lane next to me but they wouldn't. After going a couple of miles, I turned left into a side street and they followed. We stopped, I said "did you spray?". The driver said " nah, .... I fucked up .... I put it in sixth at 110" while shaking his head. I said "should of dropped it to fourth or third". He kept shaking his head. His passenger asked "That's a manual right??". "No",I said "it's an auto". <awkward silence>"GMs autos aren't slushboxes", I said. The passenger said, "we take intake, headers, and exhaust". I wasn't sure what he meant but I said "STOCK". The passenger then asked "You ever get times on that thing?". I said "I haven't had a chance to take it to the track". I then asked, "You guys know of any place were we can run them from a stop?" The two talked amongst themselves for a bit. I was somewhat surprised at how young these guys looked, late teens maybe early 20s. I wish I had a car like that when I was in school. In any case, the passenger after a while said "I don't know about running down Angeles Crest, there's lots of cops and it's downhill and all...". I agreed, he said, "Why don't you follow us". They took off down A.C. and I followed. On our way back to the freeway, the two guys pointed out a red Ferrari Modena that was in my lane, drooool.
We cruised around La Canada a while trying to find a suitable patch of straightaway. After several locations, many minutes and several U-turns, we ended up westbound on Oak Grove Drive near Windsor Ave. There is about a 900 ft of usable street there. Not quite a 1/4 mi. but a little more than an 1/8. We waited for traffic to clear. I was in the right lane, he was on the left.
fun part street
I shifted the A4 into D and told the passenger to count down. The driver in the S2000 was revving like a madman. Clutch drop I thought, so I power braked to about 900RPM (my brakes suck). "3-2-1". We both hit it and both of us spun out. I hooked a fraction of a second before he did. It was enough to get about 1/2 car on him. I kept at it and ran it up to about 85 before I had to cut it for the curvy part of the road. I looked back in the sideview and had him by about 1-1 1/2 cars.
We cruised a bit and caught the light in front of La Canada H.S. I looked over
and the passenger said "Damn, that's fast." The driver asked "Man did you see my rear break loose, I was all over the place". "That tends to happen on clutch drops", I said. "What did you drop it at?" I asked. He said "6500". "6500?, SHIT man, my car won't do 6500". He turned left onto Foothill and then got on the 210E. I followed him. I kept at his tail in the event that he wanted to do another fwy run. I passed him after a while and gave him, a thumbs up, a peace sign, and a wave. I luv my car.

Red,
Yup, I'll make the trip down to Long Beach when the Nova is ready. I know I'll get my ass handed to me but it's all in good fun.
It's a built 383 stroker, th400 with 3500 stall, and 9" with 4.10s right?

....something like that... :D
yeah... motor dyno'd at 423hp @ 5500 -- 437ft-lbs @ 4500, theoritically it should make slightly more power cause I'm using a different Intake that they used to dyno it with.
Cant decide on which Th400 I want though, B&M is just under $1000 but TCI is $1300 but it comes with Transbrake. Major debate going on my head. :) But i've already got the B&M Shift kit for the Th400, Street/Strip... its gonna give me whiplash.
For starters I'm just going for a 2200-2400 stall, if i want more later on then i'll go higher.
Its currently got a 10-bolt Open Diff rear in it now, not sure if i'll just have that rebuilt as a posi... or just upgrade to a 12bolt.
I'm considering 4.10 gears, but I think right now I've got my eyes set on some 3.73's.
When all is said and done, the car should be low in the 12s with traction problems. :)

Now Matthew, haven't we discussed this?? First, you need the 12bolt, which you can buy from me for $5000(gotta turn a tiny profit:D). Then you need to throw in a 4.11 gear. Next you'll need AT LEAST a 2800 stall, I'd say you'll have more fun/success with a 3200 though. All that plus radials equals instant 11 second slips:D

Now that's more like it, heheh. No but really, you'll break a 10bolt quick enough making 500hp. But I say keep it until it does go. You never know, might have a freak rear. There's a guy who posts on CZ28.com who busts mid 10s on a stock rear:eek: Don't know what kind of power is going through it, but it has to be a lot to go that quick. So you might be able to do the same...I just wouldn't count on it. In which case, you'll be needing a 12bolt. So give me a ring when you've saved up $5k:D

hrm.. I read that 10 bolts can hold up pretty well under high output motors and repetitive drag launches. eh.. oh well.. god damn hot rod magazine.

Blew mine on my old Z28 after ~10 track launches and ~350rwhp.
Blew mine on my '95 Z28 after ~10 track launches and ~400rwhp.
They're decent for stock rears and slightly more hp than stock, but if you're putting down a decent amount of hp and running on slicks or ET streets, they're toast. And with a 4.10 or bigger, you're gonna go through gear sets on a regular basis.

Strongest rear-end is the Ford 9-inch. Currie,Moser all make custom units for 4th Gen F-bodys use a Powertrax or my personal fav ARB Airlocker unit... Couldn't break it if you tried

I'm running on a Moser 12bolt now. I thought it was broken for a while because it was grinding and eating up gear sets one after the other. But found out later on that it wasn't the rear end afterall. I'll be putting right around 700ho on it this weekend. I expect it to hold, but we'll see:)

There is a turbo S2000 running around here. He works near me, I see him almost every morning. It is light blue, and you can see the intercooler neatly tucked in that gaping mouth! I want to run him even though I know he will eat me like a....something that gets eaten viciously! Always fun! Plus if I'm nice to the guy...he may let me drive it...CLick!
