Hi,

My 2001 kia optima died on my while I was out driving about a week ago. Up until that point it drove great and I had recently used it to make several 500 mile trips. I finally got the codes from the check engine light and here they are:

P0300- Random Multiple cylinder misfire.
P0102- Mass airflow Circuit low input
P0335- Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0340- Camshaft Position Sensor

When the engine is cold i can start it right up and drive it around but when it gets up to temp then it will just shut off. If I unhook the battery and then hook it back up again then it will start again. My engine doesn't sound too good but I think that is just the cylinders misfiring.

A month or two ago this code kept showing up but i just kept clearing it and it wouldn't show up for another thousand miles or so:
P0401- EGR insufficient flow

I dont know if the EGR is related to the current problem or not because it ran fine when the EGR code was showing.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? I have been told it may be the ECU or just the crankshaft sensor. I have a feeling if i take it anywhere then it will be a pretty expensive fix.

Thanks!
Zach

i would start with the cam sensor, definitaly, that would cause the other problems, the cam sensor is where the computer signal starts

Thanks!, It ended up being the camshaft sensor. I got it fixed a few months ago. Then a week or two after that the main computer went out. After fixing that I sold the car on craigslist and bought a 91 Honda Civic. I will never buy another Kia again.
