Hi, I'm new around here and I have a 95 Subaru Impreza L AWD.
I'm trying to increase the power of my car in a simple way and affordable (not too cheap). ANy suggestions? BTW, it's a 2.2litre engine.
I went a performance place, and they said a turbocharger would cost about 7k or more with an increase of at least 100HP (wow). They also said I couldn't put in a cold air intake, but I could buy a cold air intake filter, something like that.
In the mean time, I might get some custom gauages, a hood scoop, and paint it cobalt.
Thanks!

a turbo would make your car a headache for everyday reliablity. i suggest the usual bolt ons: pulleys, exhaust manifolds, muffler, air filter, and if you can locate them, some adjustable cam sprockets. if your more adventurous and are willing to use high octane, you could add some mild cams and a thinner metal headgasket to bump up the compression. other than that, you could see if any other subarus came with a better design intake manifold that bolts on, but i doubt it.

Maybe I'll just wait until I move out and get the stuff.
Oh hello; a Subaru dealer is selling a black '02 WRX for 14k.
Wow, people can get more stuff for ford probes than my car.

its true. the old n/a imprezas dont have much aftermarket support. if you wanna go faster i suggest upgrading to a 2002-2003 wrx. they are down around 10k or maybe even a bit lower if your lucky and they are some of the most easily tuned cars in the country, at least for anything close to its cost. just watch out for the transmission when you start making power.

Maybe an STi would be something neat to have.
But the new Nissan GT-Rs look cool
Thanks for the help.
Yeah, i keep staring at your signature.

shit the new nissan GT-R is wicked. 3rd fastest production car in the world around nurburgring. the only faster ones are the clubsport pagani zonda, which is all carbon fiber supercar with iirc a 7.3L v12? and the porsche carrera GT. not bad company for something that costs around the same as a new corvette z06. oh plus its got probably the most advanced AWD system available as far as performance goes. fully RWD unless the rear wheels slip, then limited front drive only enough to keep from spinning out, never more than 50% FWD, and only in very hairy situations. even AWD its a competitive drift car out of the box. i could go on and on but these days everyone hates GT-R fans.

I believe they'll make a more powerful version called the spec-v.
Random thought: I can't believe toyota doesn't make celicas anymore; they can't expect me to buy a tC.

the high performance GT-R, if its released, will be the V-spec and/or V-spec II. tC stands for toyota Celica. i thought the last generation celica was cool, the GT-S almost on level with the integra GS-R, but it turned into a chick car and its performance was lost. but hey, the last gen celica lives on, since the same 2zz-FE 1.8 liter motor is used in the lotus elise and lotus exige. i say look toward lexus for all toyotas performance cars. but who knows, maybe the next tC will be lighter and RWD, with a non-camry motor in it? but somehow i doubt it. toyota thinks that performance enthusiasts all read super street and dont look under their hoods.
