So what happens if I don't have a block off plate and I turn my boost up higher than 18psi? Is it crucial to have one? Why do they make one if you don't need it!!!!!????

Well most suggest to swap out the stock surge valve with a bop and bov around 18psi+ because they tend to leak(the diaphragm). Before I went big turbo I used the stock surge valve for 22-23psi applications and I think it held just fine(think being the operative word). Remember if you remove the stock surge valve and put on a block of plate then you also need a decent(non-ebay) bov and cold side pipe to put it on. If you do get a bop make sure you get a good brand like agp or ptp because the knockoff's tend to be warped a leak around the edges(ask me how I know...).

Mine looked perfectly flat on a table or the ground but when put on my stocker I couldn't hold more than 9-10psi to redline. My cheap-o bop had a bigger gap in it than pam andersons left and right legs.
