changing spark plugs

I wanted to learn how to do this myself, and while looking around the engine finally finding the spot, all i can think is, my god, how am I supposed to change the spark plugs on an LT1?

It is a PITA. On some of them it helps to use an extension and wobble joint through the wheelwells. I can get them all from top though.

Really not something I can give detailed instructions on, more of a dive in and gitterdone sort of thing.

I have changed them all from the top. #2 and #4 are a little tough, and might be more easily accessed from the bottom or wheel opening.

Changing the spark plug wires, however, is a different thing entirely. Plan on several hours just to route them the same way the originals were installed.

this is like pulling a transmission out of an S-10. if you got the money, pay someone to do it. it is a real pita. best of luck.

On my Caprice, the driver's side is not that bad. The passenger's side is another story. I agree on going under the fender... and removing the tire. I'll keep the jack under the car to lower and raise it as needed.

I use a long 3/8 extension, flex head ratchet, other extensions, a 3/8 swivel in various combinations. An old spark plug boot is good to get them started.

It takes me around 3 hours and I run out of curse words after the first hour and make up new ones.

i agree to remove tire and get to some from under. because plugs last a long time i do the plug change at tire rotation/grease inspect front end maintenance time rather than special r/r for plugs. saves your back also.......you can get a good look at wire condition better when it is done this way......
