Another Change When Running Slicks

Hello all,
Another change we had forgotton about when we made the transition to slicks was that the rear trailing arms were all bumped up to 3/4" dia. from the 5/8" dia. on the school cars. And yes, they will turn into pretzels (with enough horsepower and slicks) though it's probably OK with the stock GT-RA horsepower. Just something to think about as everyone inevitably starts looking for more power.

checked my tonight 1" dia put the caliper on them they are the fat ones. however, I do understand the double shear issue. I had the same thing with my lotus, the rear was held together with a single shear joint without a rear bar, which I upgraded as slicks where braking the rear joints. I guest the solution for these cars would be to weld a bracket on around the joints pickup points like the GTS cars, or just take your chances.

Actually, It was the thread sizes where the heim joints thread into the trailing arms that John's dimensions refer to.

^ So you mean the place to measure the diameter is on the threaded shaft on the heim joint?

Those joint are easy to increase in quality and strenght.

^ Which joint? Details?

Yes, the threaded diameter on the heim joint is what you need to check. The bigger ones have 3/4" threads, and most of the gtra's were originally built with 5/8" threads.

If the nut size is 3/4 the shaft size is 5/8 if the nut size is 15/16 the shaft size is 3/4.
