2001 Jimmy SLT can't start

I have a 2001 Jimmy SLT 4x4 6 cyl, 150,000 km. When I put the key in the ignition and turn turn it, all the lights come on, radio, etc but the engine will not turn over(no crank). After a few (10)attempts it does. I also tried changing the key and gas cap, still the same. Battery is 1yr old. There is no noise from the engine when turning the key. This is intermittent and happens 1 in 10 times . Can this be the starter?

Maybe. But I would first check for corrosion at your battery grounding straps and around the screw post connections. Acid can eat it's way through the copper cables near the crimped on connectors, leaving a greenish corrosion and eventually causing the wires to break and lose connection. Also, check the electrical connections on the starter for corrosion or oxidation.

These vehicles are prone to Ignitoin switch problems. Check all connections at battery and starter first.

It could be starter solenoid or anything inbetween the battery and starter.
The starter circuit starts at post battery and is fused ign c fuse to ign switch.
From ign switch threw the crank fuse to neutral saftey switch and from NS switch to starter relay which is also fused by ign A fuse.
from relay the start signal goes to starter solenoid on the small purple wire to solenoid.
As you can see a lot of fuses and switches and relays and wiring to get to the started solenoid.

As said check the battery cabels.
And also the cabel and wire connections on starter solenoid

Then get a old bulb type test light and check for 12 volts on the small purple start wire going to the starter solenoid.
You will need to check it when it is acting up.
If 12 volts on the purple wire and no start it is a batery or cables or a starter/solenoid problem.
If no 12 volt on the purple start wire you will have to work back threw the fuses and relay and neutral saftey switch to the ign switch.
