My Jimmy is a '96 that did not see any winters for the first 9 years of it's life (first owner played hockey in sweden and stored it from Sept to may ) so it's in way better shape than it has a right to. I'm looking to put on a cold air as well as a programmer. My aim is better all around power hopefully better mpg . Which brand is best for me? St. Jimmy is a W 4.3.
Thanks !

Get a poweraid Tb spacer. This is one of the best things you can put on your intake, for 150.00ish it's a steal.

Aviod the cold air unless its a street truck, that won't be rain driven (or even puddle driven for that matter)

Get a high flow k&n filter and stick with the sealed stock intake box.

get a gibson side swept exhaust If you can afford (400 for alum, 600 for stainless) with a high flow magnaflow Cat. Everything can be installed at a shop for around 850.00

With these simple mods for just over 1K. it'll be snorting like a hog.
Not to mention the fuel saving you will get.

Also look inside your Air plenum to see if there is alot of carbon present. If so, I suggest taking off the intake manifold and having it dipped and re machined, and make sure you intall the fel-pro gaskets after because the OEM ones are prone to failure anyway. (this is why GMC has a class action lawsuit in Canada.) Also clean up the Egr valve, and passages the best you can while your in there. A simple job that can be done in a weekend, that will end up gaining you improved mpg, power, and engine life.

I am about to install an high performance ingnition module and coil so I'll let you know how that goes.

Do the basic boltons like intake, exhaust, exc before you start messing with the computer. When you are ready for a tune you could either buy a hypertech programmer, send your computer to wait4me performance or pcmforless for a custom tune, or have someone tune the computer with hptuners or efi live.
