Hi

My air bag "rediness" light as it is refered to in the manual has came on. Just wondering if this is a common issue with these 99 ventures and/or what to look for before I go to the dealer. I have read the connector under the drivers seat can come loose so i will start there. Any constructive input is appreciated.

Thanks

Same problem here in my 99. Im afraid to bring it to the dealer because i know they will rip me off.

PS. I also have a 2004 CBR600RR for sale.

One of the connectors under the drivers seat was loose. Secured and all is well. Good luck with the 600rr. They are great bikes.

Cheers

sometimes the switch in the side panel at the seatbelt recoil will get lost connection or something . if the seatbelt does not want to recoil the airbag light will come on ,then the next time you crank it the airbag light will go off . mine did this so i bottomed the seatbelt out a few good pulls and light goes off as it is supposed to.

On most vehicles, the airbag light should come on for @6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash continuously. If the airbag light does not work properly, some vehicles have an audible tone that sounds indicating a problem with the airbag light system. When the light is on (or the tone is sounding), the airbag will NOT deploy, even in an accident. Most systems can only be diagnosed using a scanner designed for the airbag system, however some use flash codes to indicate the problem. The scanners at Auto Zone or the ones that sell for @ $50 will not access the airbag system, only the engine systems (check engine light).
This website gives you the procedure for diagnosing and resetting some systems without a scanner. Some vehicle manufacturers accommodate that (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) and some require a scan tool. http://www.airbagsolutions.com/
Check out these websites also for more info on airbag systems and the light.

I've known for some time now that the drivers seat belt does not retract by itself all of the way. Also, in the last week if I fidget with the belt and get it to retract itself all of the way the airbag light does not turn on any more. All week the light has not turned on and I have been making sure that the seat belt retracts. Is there a connection?

in the side panel where seatbelt tensioner is there is a sensor for the airbag. if you get in an accident the sensor locks the seat belt to keep you from going forward.i noticed that my drivers side seatbelt didn't want to retract and most of the time the airbag light would stay on. the light acted up at the same time the seatbelt didn't want to retract. the airbag light didn't bother me as much as the loose seatbelt as sometimes when you went to shut the door the seatbelt would be in the way of the door shutting.so i just got the seatbelt about a foot from bottoming out a jerked the **** out of it two or three times to end of it.when the seatbelt retracted on its own the airbag light worked mormal.if your light comes on for about 6 seconds when you crank it up then goes out this is normal.if it stays on then could be the clip under the drivers seat or passengers seat or the sensor at the seat belt tensioner in the panel.i think this tells if anyone is in the seats.if the light does not come on when you turn the key or after you first crank it up then the bulb is blown .
