I can't give you the complete answer to your question, but I do know a little bit, because I had an 89 civic hatch with the four-speed. It turns out it's actually a 3-speed transmission and 4th gear is an over-drive. It's true that in the 5-speed transmissions, that's actually a 4-speed and 5th gear is the over-drive.
Over-drive reduces your RPMs a certain percentage (as well as your torque), so you can calculate it by driving a certain speed in 3rd, shift into 4th, go that same speed and see the difference.
Ok. That's all I know. I think the difference between your 3rd and your over-drive is about 12 or 15 percent. Over-drive increases your MPG by 12 or 15 percent.

Wow! That's good tranny info! Compare the final drive ratio of the DX and the SI. Si's have a numerically higher gear, which means they'll take off better, but will have to rev much higher to go the same speed as an LX on the top end.

PS-Check out the differences in the reverse gear. Any manual transmission will TOTALLY smoke an automatic, if you're racing in reverse!
