Fog Lights????

How on earth do you replace the fog lights in a 2000 grand prix GTP? I had one burn out and I bought two new silverstars as replacements. Just cant figure out for the life of me how to reach them short of removing the bumper. Its 0 degrees here for a high, so I cant be freezing my fingers off trying to replcae fog lights, but I'm not paying someone to do it.

Also how is the bulb removed from its lense? Twist, pull? I dont want to break anything. These cold temps make plastic brittle.

One more question, when I was at wal-mart deciding what bulbs to buy, the little information center said the 2000 GP takes an 880 bulb. 880 bulbs use 27Watts. There were also other bulbs there that seemed to have the same electrical socket but had different wattages. Anyone experiment with these type of bulbs? I think there were two, one had 35 watts and the other had 50 watts. Would buying the 50watt bulbs make my fog lights brighter? Could my wiring system handle it without overheating? Thanks!!!

It can be tricky to change them out, especially in sub freezing weather where ice build-up can make them stubborn to pull. They do twist and pull. If at all possible do it in a heated garage and the front tires up on a ramp/ramps or wait until the weather warms up a bit.
From behind the fog lamp and under the bumper you can access the wiring/ bulb and twist counter clockwise. Usually the socket needs a budge (On Mine) to loosen it so I have used needle nose pliers to get it going, careful not to damage the wires/connecter, using a small flashlight helps to see where to grab up there.
When I have to change them in winter I throw my gloves in the dryer on high for five minutes before I go out.
As far as higher wattage bulbs I'm not sure but I've heard that anything higher than stock can melt the housing.

I figured out how to change mines but now they wont come on. The switch is lighting up but lights are not working. Where could I possibly locate the fuse if one exists?

I think there is a relay and also a fuse in the underhood fuse box on the drivers side.

Silverstar fogs won't last long. If it's not too late take em back and exchange em. Otherwise you'll be changing them again in a month or two. Everyone I know who put SSs in their GPs were having to replace them with in three months.

Also if you don't wanna go under the car to change the bulbs if you remove the headlight you can reach down and change em.

I would not go up in watts with the fog lights i tryed that on my 98 Bonnie and it killed the car. Melted the hot positive wire from the fog lights to a ground buss ground in the main harness and fryed a lot of stuff out like fuel pume and power windos. I know its a different car but i will not do that again.

I just put the SS fog lights in my '00 gtp, and I must say they're not worth the money at all. Hardly any noticable difference between them and the OEM fog lights. They still even appear a yellowish color. SS is a waste of money if you ask me.

I have SS headlights and love them, but if you guys arent happy with ss's for fogs, I'll return them. If they have a yellow tint, They are going back, I cant stand the yellow tinted headlights. Want blue, anyone recommend any fog lights that will give a real real bright white or blue light? On ebay maybe?

Even looking for blue headlights, but it seems everywhere I look, they have "blue" headlights, but on the box it says that they "produce brilliant white light". False advertising?

you bought the Sylvania Silverstar foglight bulbs? I'll let you know, that was a $40.00 mistake. they are only gonna last 3 months...if your lucky :frown:

the headlight bulbs are nice though. for some reason the fog bulbs dont like to last very long. I went through 3 pairs before i decided to just give up. they are bright as He!! though!
