I'm in El Paso, my transmission is shot, the filter is full of metal shavings, gears are slipping, the torque converter clutch is sticking, so it shudders when I stop, etc. Definitely need a new tranny. But I can't seem to find one for my year anywhere in the area. Is there one from another car I could use?

Nothing special here. :shakehead You have the same 4T65E and Series II “VIN K” drive train used in the Buick LeSabre, Park Avenue and Regal of the same vintage. Your local JY should have a cross-reference on this combination.

Thanks. For a decent sized city, theres only one junkyard, and they pretty much blew me off. And all the auto parts stores I tried would have to order it, and were charging much more than I wanted to pay. I now it won't be exactly cheap, but I know a rip-off when I see it.

Try the links below and see what they have. Remember, GM offers a 3yr/100,000 mile warranty on rebuilt transmissions! This is the best deal!
GM Parts Direct - Main (http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/)
GM parts 4 less (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214371&catalogid=0)

Jasper is better than GM but more money,3 year ,100,000 mile warranty.Jasper put updates in and GM does not.Jasper basically finds the faults, fixes them with upgrades and they have a nationwide warranty which you can take to any Jasper dealer.

Notice; EDIT to my above post, my mistake! The warranty for passenger cars rebuilt engines/transmissions has been extended to 3yr 100,000 miles from GM and is honored at any GM dealer nationwide. In addition, if you have the dealer install the transmission, labor R&R is covered. This is even a better "best deal"! :iceslolan Click Here (http://www.goodwrench.com/PartsAccessories/Transmissions.jsp) for details.

I would trust a Jasper over a GM reman.Jasper has a reasearch and development area. They find the weak points which GM would not do and put in upgraded parts that last longer and stronger what factory did not put in.Same with their engines,Jasper finds the weak points and puts in upgraded parts. The Jasper would last longer and never one seen one fail yet. Here is their website: www.jasperengines.com

Are you saying GM does not use updated parts? Never heard that one before, in fact, I know very well that they do! GM also has it's own R&D and Engineering team in the rebuild facilities and they do recommend part upgrades as needed and required, otherwise they could not offer a higher mileage warranty on rebuilt engines/transmissions than they do on the new car drive-train! Trust me, I have a friend who recently retired from GM after 33 years of service, rebuilding automatic transmissions for GM. He can literally tell you every upgrade GM has made to the 4T65E during the past 10 years! (Not 1 or 2-- but many) :grinyes:

I know Jasper does put in updated wiring harnesses in their reman transmissions and dyno tests them before selling them to the customer making sure they shift right and no other problems occur right after being remaned.Jasper is the top of the line reman companies out their and put in high quality parts.I am sold on Jasper and my father only recomends Jasper since he is a Jasper dealer even on their engines.

Thanks for the additional comments on Jasper products. I am sure that they have very good products and should always be considered when shopping for engines/transmissions. Click Here (http://www.goodwrench.com/_res/pdf/TransmissionPdf/Transmission%20Reman%20Process.pdf) for an overview of the GM transmission remanufacturing process. If you will notice, they also dyno test every transmission! In addition, I know they also replace the complete wiring harness inside the trans.:)

I personally have no inside, or outside interest in GM, so therefore, I have nothing to gain or loose by recommending the products! :shakehead

I was beginning to think you were a salesperson for Jasper, you would make a good one; thanks for explaining the inside connection.
