So this is my go at diecast and I wanted to just put some wheels on this car and make the paint shiny. Well my hood test proved that adding clear wasn't a great idea even if it did come out shiny. Turns out that getting the plastic parts off is pud. I really thought it would be a pain in the ass - took 5 minutes. Anyway, the pics show an early mock up with Pegasus wheels, their smaller size Bullitts. If you've seen my other cars you know that I'm not nearly as cool as most of the people around here with the details. No engine, not much suspension, very little interior detail ... I just try to make the car look cool and shiny on the outside. Which is kinda what I do as a car artist so I guess it makes sense. I also got a good shot of how bad the paint was out of the box. This is a Revell 67 GT500 btw. I tried just a little wet sanding and polishing but the pits were pretty bad. It looked ok from 6 feet - these pictures really exagerate the bad paint with glaring light.

The next one shows what happened with the clear coat on the hood. You can see quite a bit of color difference.

And this is after the GT500 got in a fight with some 220 grit sand paper. I'll be letting some oven cleaner do the rest of the job for me.

Here it is after being fully stripped

and with some initial body work to remove upper scoops, improve the door scoops, fill bad gaps etc.

Yikes, I hope your kidding about the 220. However, judging by your Challenger you know your way around a paint job ;)

WHOA! it was feb when I was working on that car? Well here's the deal, totally the truth on the 220 .... but I went light. I hate to spend a lot of time sanding slowly when I can just tear the crap out of it. But really the 220 is just to tear into the paint so that the oven cleaner can do the rest of the work for me. Fast forward ... uh 4 months apparently ... and I did get it painted but it sucked and that project died. It sucked because I'm impatient and I'm willing to botch the job a little in order to learn what NOT to do .... or something like that. No, what happened was that I wanted a wide stripe and narrow stripes around it. I probably should have sprayed the stripe color first, let it totally cure, masked, and shot the body color over it. I shot body color first, didn't let it cure enough when I shot the stripes. To add to my problems, the space between the stripes is obviously very tiny so I had to do the stripes in two sessions .... boooooring. I had 1/8 fine line but that's not fine enough as you can guess. Fresh paint over 3 day old paint softens it, paint was pealing, I was cussing, it got dropped. I will finish it when I don't hate it as much because the color combo really worked imo, but it's back to the 220 and oven cleaner. I have no idea what oven cleaner will do to putty but I'm willing to bet it's not good which means I'll be doing the body work all over again as well which included integrated side scoops. oh well.

LMAO @ me :loser:

I'm usually good about necroposts, but due to the fact that there was 0 replies on this one I didn't bother to take a second look at the date.

Wow that is one tedious painting man, I'd have to really like the project to put that much in to it. Kudos anyways man.
