smoking?

Hello,
I just left my car still for 2 months with no oil in the car and hooked up a fmic, while doing a coolant change. As i was exited about starting my engine it starting making loud ticking sounds, probably letting the oil circulate was the right thing to do, but the engine started smoking? could this be the wd 40 i used to put the turbo piping together or is this a major problem? The turbos were really hot after a minute. Somebody help please?

The ticking sound I am sure was just the lifters making that sound until the oil had properly circulated. If there was an excess amount of anything flammable I could see it possibly causing smoke for a brief period of time. What color was the smoke?

condensation built up in the exhaust, any number of fluids burning off, etc.

It'll tick for a little while if it's been sitting for a long time, everything needs to be re-lubed (for lack of a better term).

The ticking will go away after a bit, and so should the smoking.

Alright now the smoke is coming from the radiator i did spill coolant on it hopefully it just steams away but the tick sound is still there. The thing is it was empty with no oil for about a month then i put it 4 quartz then started then stopped put it up to 5 quartz. Still makes that sound. The car was fine before, could it be possible its a rod bearing?

a rod bearing would sound like a midget with a hammer inside your engine, I doubt that's what it is.

Why was it sitting for a month with no oil??:nono: That is bad.

The lifters need time to work the oil through. Give it time, drive it around, put some mileage on it, it will go away. If not... lifter tick won't cause any damage, it's just slightly annoying.

Yeah i did some research and had a friend bring his 2nd gen with lifter tick and mine sounds a lot like a rod bearing (shoots self in head). Anyone know how to fix that if it is doable at home? if not how much would it cost at a shop?

I had that happen and I just went the route of buying a used motor and through that in. Are you sure it is a rod bearing. Like girlyVR4 said, it is very loud and not a ticking sound at all.

Yeah im pretty sure its the rod bearing because its abnormally loud. Either that or it knocking every time for god knows what reason. Still is the rod bearings such a difficult task? Hook me up with some installation steps

Drain a little oil and put some ATF in the engine. Start it up and let it idle for a short amount of time then rev it up to about 3000 rpm and hold it there for about 20-30 seconds. If its the lifters the noise should greatly reduce or go away. Also, lifters with no oil in them are very loud in comparison to standard "lifter tick".

some lifter tick is very loud.

drain your oil, and check for metallic flakes.

^^I agree. If you do find some flakes, it won't hurt to take the oil pan off (obviously with the oil still drained) and take a look for any abonormalities.

Yeah sorry it wasnt a rod bearing i was just a little paranoid. It's just a lifter tick and i have the third gen lifters right here with me. Anyone have installation steps for those i have a general idea on how they are installed. Also do they need to be adjusted or is it a drop in replacement?

PS i found out the smoke came from coolant that was spilled over the turbo on accident and the evaporation caused it to steam.
