It's about time... I have heard rumors of this lately, but nobody had any evidence that this was actually being looked into. I think that this is necessary to fix things less we end up in the next great depression. From what I have seen in NE Ohio, things are really bad. There are so many people without jobs, businesses are leaving the area and the country altogether, and homes are foreclosing left and right. It is just a terrible time to be in the middle class or less...

I am hoping that people use this money wisely though. Some experts are saying that they hope people will go out and spend this money to get the economy going again, but the way I see it, that is the worst thing to do. Rather then pumping all the money back into the economy, perhaps people just need a lesson in financial organization. I am no expert by any means, but wouldn't it make sense for people to be focusing on their house payments and paying their bills rather than going out and buying a 3,000 dollar flat tv with HD and blueray players and 10,000 DVD's to go with it? I think that the problem is just that people are spending their money in the wrong places and that is ruining the economy.

Let's also not forget the fact that almost half of the companies in this country are being shipped oversea's and things are being manufactured for cheaper. That certainly isn't helping things out around here. In my area specifically, there used to be several large corporations that employeed about 40% of the people around here. All of them have left the area and have relocated to Mexico... Leaving that 40% without jobs, pensions, or anything. They screwed over all these older people who were within 10 years of retirement and now they are competing the with next generation for jobs at Walmart, McDonalds, and Gas stations... I donno about you guys, but I see something majorly wrong with that picture...

That is just my thoughts on it though... :2cents:

how can you give tax rebates when your country is already so far in debt and running deficits. This isn't going to "stimulate" the economy enough to solve the kinda problems the bush administration has dug for you guys.
Still must be nice you pay less taxes then we do already...
But I'd prefer to pay more taxes and have health care than pay less and worry.

America has been in debt since day one and that's never gonna change. No reason to not dig the hole a little deeper each year... lol

America will always "be in debt". The thing is, all this "x amount of dollars in the hole", is not really there. It's nothing tangible, so it doesn't make a difference.

It is good (if this really does happen) if people spent the money to get the economy going. Those people that take their money out of the bank because they're scared is stupid and need to put it back in there and spend.

I can use mine, depending on the size, for living room furniture.

Wow, how bomb would $600 be right now? Fuck saving, I'm going to do my part to stimulate the economy! :D I am kinda sorry to say that I am essentially done modding the Talon for now, atleast until I get all of its quirks worked out and get the Cavy sold. Provided I can keep up my guitar playing, I am going to probably get some pedals, an EQ, and a used Ibanez S320 or S470. If theres enough left over, I would put that some of my own money towards a new amp.

Also Brian, you should realize that and extra $600 per person isnt going to inspire people to drop thousands more than they already have. If they have a roof over their heads (even if its in the forclosal process) they know better than to spend money they dont have, and people in that situation will use it properly. Its not necessarily the peoples whose homes are getting forclosed that are at fault here, most of the forclosal spike have been because of rediculous variable rate loans... people used to be able to afford their houses no problem (remember, the banks wouldnt loan them the money if they didnt think they could repay it) until the economy took a shit and the rates sky rocketted. All of a sudden BAM they cant make ends meet. I honestly cant see the extra $50 billion or whatever inspiring a huge turn around in our economy, but I think it would make thinks not suck quite so much.

One of the few things that strikes me funny about this is

1 : when you listen to Ron Paul in debates he states the US's current status and flow of money..basically America is broke and had to borrow 12 billion from China. Great now America is in debt to China as well as the FR.

2 : Some bill just passed to force lower interest rates on borrowed money such as loans and CC's.

3 : That article being what it is worth - A little extra cash in the pocket ( a one time thing ) has mention how Washington is being labelled as broke but claim otherwise.

I think with everything going on and so many movements to eliminate the FR and eliminate the IRS the have put their heads together and figured out a tricky way to keep America indebted to other countries and Americe in debt to the monetary system created by the FR. Now when politics speak of this and that happening with lower interest , lower taxes , the government actually 'giving' money back...I believe it to be a cover up of their true intentions and keep America blind as to what the FR and IRS are truely doing.

My drunken statment for the night....America is fucked. We've been fucked from day one, and will continue to be until we cease to exist as a superpower. People are entirely spending money in the wrong areas, like what Brian mentioned, and with the inflation rates rising so fast, the minimum wages around the country can't keep people afloat. They buy these 250k houses while a 2 income family work at the local walmart, driving hummers, new suburbans/tahoes with 22's, pimped out cars, etc...and then at the end of the month can't pay their mortgage payment? Fuck that. Let them sleep outside, people need to be taught a lesson. Nothing the government does will help. Give people another $600, they'll get bigger wheels for their Tahoe, or get that 50" plasma instead of the 42" they were looking at. People won't learn a lesson by giving them more money, it will just make them more reliant on the government next time this shit happens.

I guess I shouldn't complain though. With the commodity prices the way they are right now, us farmers are sitting pretty nicely at the moment. Fuck it, chalk up that order for 36" wheels for the Monte. I'll take it to Mexico and have someone make them bitches fit for 1/100th of the price I could get it done around here.

Thanks Bush.

/End rant.

Well things aren't so bad. Sure the economy is in a slump, but unemployment rates aren't bad (about 5% nationwide). The economy flucuates up and down, hey it happens. This isn't even scary yet, hell the whole .COM crash of the 90's was much worse than this so far, and look at things after that.

I think there is alot of general unrest in foreign markets now because they are uncertain of the US economy, and unfortunately most other world economies are tied into our own through the nature of trading. Alot of this is causing the market flucation you are seeing now, coupeled with high oil prices.

As far as America being in debt, this is old news. We have pretty much always been in debt, and with the war thing going on it puts even more strain on the economy. I suspect things will settle down a lot more once a Dem comes into office and we see the Iraqi conflict come more to a close.

Garrett picked up what I was saying. Dustin, I didn't say that this money should inspire them to spend thousands more elsewhere, I said that they are spending their money in the wrong areas. It's not a problem that people don't have the money and can't pay their bills, its a problem that they would rather have all the luxeries that they can't afford rather than paying off their necessary bills.

I know I have been focusing on paying off my normal bills and getting my head where it should be rather than being like the rest of America... Of course I fell victim to the same thing when I thought I could afford to build a full blown DSM just because I lived at home and look at the money troubles that put me into... I am just now surfacing from all that debt and crap. As of right now the only major things I owe are about 7k my Cobalt and 2k on a hospital bill... I am going to try to get the hospital bill ironed out here next month and then I should be back in the game of where I should be in life, rather than behind and in debt. I have been doing some major analyzing of my finances and I can afford to live on my own if I didn't have these bills, so I am doing what I need to do rather than what I want to do...

Meh... I still wish I could have a huge tv and crap, but I know I wouldn't use it enough to justify actually buying it. But this is not the mindset that the rest of the country uses unfortunately...

yea your slump and inflation has given me tons of buying power. From someones who's not in debt I can pick up almost anything I want from the states for a fraction of what it costs here. Its not all bad :)
But I gotta say this thread is extremely interesting to me

not everyone will get the maximun of 1,200 nor the maximum of 600. I've read on some other sites that the return can be as low as 300 or as high as 2000 so it all just depends on which brackets you fall under...Dont get your hopes up for the maximum..the government has a bad habit of letting "we the people" down.

Reading comprehension pwns you dude:
Under the agreement announced by the White House, Boehner and Pelosi, individual taxpayers would get up to $600 in rebates, working couples $1,200 and those with children an additional $300 per child.
The government cannot possibly make everyone happy, for instance this. They come out and say maximum of $600 per individual and sure as shit some people are going to automatically assume that they will get the maximum or some how confuse "maximum" with "minimum" and now those people are going to be the ones bitching when they get, say, $350 or whatever. This is the thing that drives me NUTS about politics and governmental shit... I seriously doubt that most people have any fuckin clue what they are yammering about and I dont think that normal civilians are the only ones.

A lot of people I know that have read that article think they will get 1200 just because they are married but I highly doubt even 50% of couples will get the capped amount or 75% of single individuals will get the capped amount either..Only thing you can do at this point is hope for the most possible but then again if you think about the last time this happened - what followed ? Bloated ass taxes...It's more of a set up than a relief in my eyes.

This is way too much to read. Basically we had no mre deficit till that dickhead Bush went on to become a war mongral. In my opinion whoever becomes president next, will not be as bad as Bush was. Hope in February things will change for the better. For now, the rebate will go to my rims fund:iceslolan
