my car is a 96 infinity I30, sometimes it runs fine but other times ill be driving along and all of a sudden, check engine, oil, battery and some other lights come on and i have no power and when i go to slow down or stop i have hardly any turning or braking power but then i stop, put it in park, turn car off, then restart it and then it seems to run fine........please help.Does anyone know what could be wrong with it. I tried to run the computer on it but it wouldn't pick up any signal so is there spmething wrong with the electrical part as well?

This sounds like an intermittent electrical problem or OBD system fault.
the check engine system could have stored codes even if the light is not on.
Auto zone will check this out for free.

...check engine, oil, battery and some other lights come on and i have no power ....

- no power = engine died (like ign sw turned off?)
- lights ON = batt/pwr supply seems to work

This can be bad contact and/or worn ign signal/switch. As check engine light is ON, pwr supply to ECU may be ok. Cant really know - this is what has to be done; see pages 10 & 14 & 23 - http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/14

If that electronics cleanup doesn't help, replace the ign switch. Start from measuring charge voltage at ECU

I've had this same problem with my 1989 Maxima "Maxine". When I would get aprox. 2 miles from home (the same spot every time) the engine would get sluggish and would stall. This problem went on for several months. We took it to the Nissan dealer who could not get a code even with the Service Engine light on. We changed the mass air flow sensor which helped for a short time and then the problem would come back. It ended up that our altinator was the problem - it would overcharge the battery and would kill the air flow sensor. The battery actually boiled - this is how my husband figured out the real problem was the altinator. We replaced the altinator and haven't had a problem since. There was a terrible smell also, which was the battery acid. With over 300,000kms Maxine is still running strong.

Hope this helps....
