What does this "thermal actuator" control?

Its for the 4X4 that engages my front axle.

Did you check for power to it, or assume that new means good?

Check fuses if you havn't already. If good, check for power to the switch, and then out of the switch if it has it going in.

There is a kit (I forget who makes it) that has a cable that runs down and takes the place of the actuator. A lot of offroaders upgrade to that because of the problems with the original actuator going bad. I don't think it was very much, and it may be easier than finding and fixing the problem. It's really just a preference thing.

You don't sound dumb, you can't learn if you don't ask!

The switch is in the lever you pull to put it in 4x4, infact, the lever is only a switch, there is no mechanical linkage.

Thank's i'll check that later. I wasn't sure if there was a switch there or not. So the only mechanical is the shifter rod that engages the transfer case. I'll let you know what happen's thank's again for all your help.
