94 Cherokee Rather Wierd Problem

Ok guys this is going to sound crazy. My ignition on my 94 Cherokee was busted by my little brother....The steering wheel was al beat up as well as the column so I just changed out the whole column...


Every now and then (Even before new column) when you would try to crank it you would get nothing..(Like your in gear)

Well I done some research no clicking absolutly nothing. So I tried something diffrent...When it will not do anything in Park I throw it in nuetral and boom it cranks right up. So this makes me think its a park safety switch (Not sure if it has one but its all I can figure)

So my question is "How Do I Fix This?? Where Is The Switch?" Its not a real big deal but I would like to get it fixed...

My '84 Cherokee has the identical problem. I just live with it; but I could probably fix it by adjusting the shifter linkage.

I am going to pull out the NSS and clean it up. Hell I may just replace it. I will try to get to it this weekend. I will let yall know how it turns out.

I would try cleaning it first as replacing it is expensive and if only cleaning it fixes it then it saves you a couple hundred bucks. Check out www.lunghd.com his onsite tech sections tells how to rebuild it and also www.go.jeep-xj.info

check the bushings within the linkage.
the rods where it attatches from the shif colum to the rod, the rod to the llinkage next to the trans, and the ball socket bushing on the rod to the frame mount that leads to the trans. stud.
If these are worn out, replace them and re-adjust the linkage.

I am going to pull out the NSS and clean it up. Hell I may just replace it. I will try to get to it this weekend. I will let yall know how it turns out.
When I priced a new one, it was $255.

I rebuilt mine. If you do it once, you will see why they go bad. It is the type of grease they use in it.

To me from the junk yard for free :D I Will of course clean the new one and the old one and have one for just in case! Can't never have to many spare parts.

Now that's a Jeepers thinking right there.^ lol

Why spend $255 bucks when you can clean and rebuild it in 15 minutes?

Believe me, you will be spending that money on many other repair items if you keep this Jeep.

I got a funny one for yall. Check this out. I decided I was going to clean the NSS right. So I get under there and wonder "Can I just loosen the bolts and spray inside and it work. Took 2 minutes and absolutly no problems lol. I may go ahead and clean it but as of now I have reverse lights and it starts every time.

well..if you take it apart and clean it and sand the contacts...it will just like new. If you use a dielectric silcone grease...it will be better than new.
