a/c fan not working??

Alright well, this problem on my brothers "98 ford escort" started 2 days ago when my brother was coming home from work so, I read the repair manual for his car and found out it had a circuit beaker that tripped so, I rest it and it started working.

It worked untill last night when it quit again so, I tried to reset again it but, it wasn't tripped so, I thought it was fan that quit working but, when I took it out and hooked it to a battery to confirm that it quit but, it worked.

I took the resistor out to test it to see if it blew but, the book doesn't show how to test it and I was wondering if anyone knows how to test it???

nm, I'm 99.9% sure the heater/blower resistor is no good so I'll have my brother pick one up after work and install it for him.

Do a continuity test to see if current will pass through it. An ohms meter can tell you if it is at the correct resistance if you know what spec is. You need to know spec if you pick one up at Radio Shack. Withou an ohms meter you can run it off a bettery and put a voltmeter on it back to the battery to see if is open.

I installed a new heater/blower resistor assembly because I was sure it was bad since the heat/fan quite working and it didn't blew the circuit breaker. After I installed a new assembly it started working again so, my brother dosen't have to freeze going to work on these cold nights.

Thanks for letting us know how it turned out. Your brother is a lucky man. It got down to 12 degrees here in NW Arkansas last night. I can only imagine how cold it must have been in your area of the country.

Well, tonight it's down to 18 degrees here in Indiana but, it feels like 8 degrees so, he's really glad that I fixed it.
