I've got a 1987 Iroc 5 speed 305 tpi with 34,000 miles on it. I have replaced the 305 with a 350 tpi. I had some issues with the tpi, but thanks to help from this forum I've got it running fine. Now I've purchased a Fast Burn 383 to install. The car has a 10 bolt with an Eaton posi, 4:10 gears and Moser axles with c-clip eliminators. I have Edelbrock headers with Flowmaster 3" exhaust. I also have purchased the Edelbrock tpi base for the vortec heads, the Edelbrock high flow runners and a BBK 58mm throttle body. It should run when I get it all put together. How long do you think the stock 5 speed and the 10 bolt will last? I don't plan on installing sticky tires or drag racing it, just an occasional blast on the street.

the 5-speed will probably be the first to go, they didn't even put them in the 350 cars from the factory because they wouldn't hold up. I'm surprised it hasn't gone already. the 10 bolt isn't known to be very strong either, but you have it somewhat built up so it will probably be ok. there's other things you can do to make it stronger and last longer tho.

The Eaton posi unit is probably going to be OK (it ain't factory stock) but the T5 trans. is going to become a grenade. Also, those Edelbrock headers are going to become a restriction for the 383. save up and look into getting some headers with 1.750" primaries.
