Igniton key won't turn

I went out this am and couldn't get the ignition switch to turn. It was fine last night. I tried both keys but no luck. While fooling with it, I noticed that the steering wheel would not lock. I'm stuck in the driveway because I can't get it out of gear to push it in the garage. I thought that maybe some water had frozen in the switch so I heated it with a blow dryer for several minutes but that didn't help. Then I put a portable heater inside and got it good and warm inside but still no luck. Any Ideas ?? Thanks, Greg

Try tapping lightly on the lock cylinder with small hammer.

Hello Greg,

While very firmly pushing and pulling the steering wheel left and right with you left hand, gently throw the ignition switch with your right hand . . .

I've had a similar experience, but it turned out to be that ice had melted under the vehicle, caused it to slip and jammed that front pitman arm so hard over, that I couldn't throw the ignition key.
Hope this helps

Well? Did you fix it?
Post back, and tell us if you fixed it.

Hi,

I've got the same problem. My key won't turn in the ignition. If I jiggle the key for a while I can get it to turn. But, this has happend before (5 years ago) and eventually I was not able to turn the key. I had the ignition switch replaced by a shop. This time I would like to do it myself if possible.....

Anyone know how to remove the ignition switch? or can direct me to a maintainence procedure?

thanks,
Rob
