01 malibu trans problem

i have a 01 malibu trans concern. Trans seems to surge at crusing speeds and grind/slip/horrible noise under hard accelration,not present if at half throttle . I think this is a torque converter issue. if anyone has had this problem it might save me some time pulling the trans for no reason.:banghead:
