short vs long shifter

:popcorn: i have a short shifter and cant seem to get it to go in reverse. i was told that if i switch to a standered shifter that it will solve the problem any feed back people it is parked on a hill front toward a wall so i cant move it

Usually it's a problem with the linkage adjustment. You can get it close by feel, but you need the adjustment tool to get it right. Take it to a dealer. The longer shifter may provide the necessary leverage to break your linkage, but I doubt it will fix your problem.
I forgot to mention - get a rebuilding kit for the linkage. There are several bushings and stuff that wear out. This makes the shifting a LOT smoother.

volkswagen, yes? does it have the reverse lockout? push down on the shifter as you put it in reverse
