HI, im new to the forums just registered today last week i baught my second honda a 1990 CRX with a b16a1 block and a b18 gsr head internals are civic type r pistons with stock rods and skunk 2 cams, the car starts up fine and when warm idles at 900-1000 rpms, when cold 1500-2000 when the car is warm everythings allrite except when it goes into vtec after 5,500 rpms vtec starts then kinda bogs and the rpms sputter and it sounds like it goes on and off and onn and off. its really weird but when its cold it works fine. the wiring on the car seems fine im not sure what ecu the car has or were to find it in the crx currently dont wanna drive it untill i sort all problems out

the ecu should be under the passenger side footwell..below the glove box..just peel back the carpet and see if youre throwin any codes..there will be a light blinkin on it and thats how you read the codes if its throwing some. also for everyone here just look at the side of your ecu and there should be a sticker thatll tell you which ecu is being run.

find out what ECU your running and if its been chipped , it could be the vtec fuel maps are messed up

i looked at the ecu there dosnt seem to be any light flashing or a sticker on the side of it telling me wich ecu it is im pretty sure its a ecu from a b16a1 motor

ok, so your running a 1.6 motor with 1.8 cams... could be why the vtec map is messed up... and read your spark plugs, could give clues as to whats happening

im thinking of just getting a hondata s300 and get the car tuned is that a good way to go from what i heard its what i should do if i plan to keep modding the car

the s300 isnt bad, but there are programs out there that are free and do pretty much the same stuff

ok ecu is a p72 spark plugs changed old spark plugs were black at the end car ran alot better i think the vtec problem probably lies in the vtec solenoid or the vtec whatchama call it. im gonna try to fix that and if that dosent work then the problem lies in tuning.

p72 is a gsr ecu (1.8L) so its prolly running way too rich while vtec... hence the black plugs..
