Anyone have any info on this?
I'm tempted to buy one but how is it 1/2 the price of a Warpspeed Pipe, which is $100 less that Stillen and Cattman?
How does it sound?

The Budget pipe is just as good as all the others. The funny thing is, its still $250, except its $250 Canadian, which comes out to about $160 USD. The biggest discount is the exchange rate. If you were living in Canada, you'd think $250 CAD is a lot, except a WS or Cattman pipe would be cost prohibitive.

Wow are you the guy I just talked to from Budget???
I got impatient so I called and that's how he explained the price difference. I bought one and it should be here before next weekend!!!!

Mrmaxima97 has budget y-pipe installed on his 97 max. I rode in his car and it really improves the hp gain and it sounds really nice also. Really nice mod for only 160 bucks.
P.S. BRO!!! this is important. When you will go to install the y-pipe make sure you will get new bolts instead of using old ones (which might be rusted and all) This is really important. Budget y-pipe will NOT come with new bolts. You have to get them separately. You can ask Mrmaxima97 where he got his bolts (because Im not sure hehe)

When I was putting on my ypipe the only bolts I needed to get replaced were the ones at the end of the ypipe and the cat. I went to a local muffler shop and they torched them off and put new ones on for like 5 bucks.

From what ive been reading on the .org, nope. But its always good to reset the ECU when you change something like a Y-Pipe

all i can say is, if you are, if it's really rusted under there, don't bother.
i busted 2 bolts and ended up taking it somewhere anyway.

Yeah it's like $166 shipped from Budget, who has the least expensive one. It cost me $125 to put on, but that was mostly because of the labor it took to drill out the 2 bolts i broke :(

MaxPayne

Yes. Budget calls it an "F-pipe" because that is more what it looks like. People in America tend to call it a "y-pipe" which is a hand down from the American "V" engines. On a Chevy V-8, they call it a "y-pipe" because it looked like a "Y".

Once the car is up and running at idle(1-2 minutes), it should pass emissions.

before all you guys go jumping into this, just be aware that it is illegal to drive with one of those on the street and just because it will pass emmissions(which it isn't guaranteed to) tests doesn't make it legal. just a friendly word of caution.

Yes, there was a definite increase in performance. We have to pass emissions here and the car passed without any problems.
What about the pipe makes it illegal? If it passes inspection and passes emission standards, what makes it any different than going to the muffler shop and having a bad exhaust replaced?
It took me about 30 minutes to replace my pipe, and that included heat wrapping it, it fit perfectly - you should be able to replace it quickly with standard tools.

it is illegal because it eliminates a catalytic converter, which is required under federal law. only legal for off road use. that is the reason that some shops won't put them in, cause once the car touches a public road, it is running "hot", and the shop provided the means.

The Catalytic converter is after the y-pipe, and it is installed. I looked for a pre-cat and could not find one on our old pipe.

We went down and bought a Chilton manual, which ironically has the answers to about half the threads I've read on this forum. It shows 2 - "warm-up 3 way catalysts" in the y-pipe, one in each of the two pipes coming from the exhaust manifolds on the VQ30DE engines.
This is obviously why the y-pipe and high flow cats allow so much more exhaust to escape.
Thanks Thrasher.

We wrapped our Y-pipe before we installed the pipe, a lot easier than doing it afterwards, we have not had any buzz at all. I have heard that the pipe will buzz but I agree with Paonessa, wrap it and it will also help the exhaust flow through the pipe better, which will help your performance.:smoker: BTW the heat wrap will stink for a while, but the smell does eventually go away.
