Engine swap for Firebird

I got a question. Can you swap engine in 1993-up Firebird Formula with Dodge Viper V-10?(I think it is called Dodge Magnum V10, but not sure so won't lie). If so does it make sense and how much will it cost aproximately? I found Dodge Magnum V10 on Ebay for 1500$..but it doesn't look too good...how much is the new engine and how much is the work? And do I have to replace transmission too? Has anyone ever done it? If so, what does it come up as and what was done(I'd love too see pictures of that work done, not just messages like: "Yo, dude, that s**t flies! It jus' glues to the seat, yo!")

P.S. - i thought about doing this on a 96 Firebird Formula Coupe with manual trnsmition.(is it 5-speed or 6-speed?)

I'm thinking you'd have to tube that.
I wouldn't tackle a project like that if I was you, IMHO.

"I'm thinking you'd have to tube that."

what do you mean?

Like probally tube the front out. The V10 is likely not goin' to fit.
Wait, that is what tube means when you have to cut up the frame & everything for a larger motor, suspension, etc.?

I don't know.
Maybe.
I think the motor will fit. Anyhow I'll know in August. If it will I'll post everything that I have done/changed to fit it in for normal operation.
I was just looking around maybe someone already tried to do that. I was curious. If there is anyone outthere who knows, please tell me.

The reason why I'm thinking about that is because I've never heard of anyone doing that plus if it will work out that will be one unique fast Firebird.

For about the same price you could probably be able to get a 427 ls6 twin turbo from lingenfelter.

but if you want a viper under the hood, goodmoding

The V10 will be a very tight fit in a 96 you might want to put it in a 3rd or previous generation Camaro in which it will definitely fit without heavy modifications.

If you can buy it on ebay for cheap, good luck with it I wouldn't know if it fits. Other then that if you were to buy a new V10, that would be extremely expensive. Not to mention parts for the Viper are really expensive. To give you an idea how much money you're looking to spend, headers for that thing cost you $2000.

I would consider 3 options, buy a lingenfelter 427, buy a 427 from the Stingray Corvette. Or buy a 400 from the 70 Trans Am and GTO.

I bought the engine already for 2500$. Its almost new. Tranny is next. Then I will buy a Firebird 93-on body. Hopefully 96 or 02. I think it will be a tight fit too, but if it won't go in, i'll rebuild the car "a little" to fit it in.

I don't want Lingenfelter. I want a Viper engine in a Firebird. Lingenfelter is not original. I've seen cars with Lingenfelter engines, but not with Viper... Hopefully that enigne won't be too heavy for the car.
Thanks for replying everyone.

Yeah that's going to be one strange sounding Firebird. It will have that high pitched sound, lol people will think you replaced your engine with a 4-cylinder.

If you actually pull that off, please do show us pictures, not to mention I would send pictures to a F-body magazine or something.

Btw can you show us the link to this V10 on ebay where you bought it from? I want to see what shape it's in for myself.

About the $2,000 headers, yes that's what a brand would cost but if you could weld them yourself you'd be set.

I'm betting thats a truck V10 worth 360 hp and a bit of twist.. .. i think its a stupid mod.. put it in a ac cobra kit.. tha make more sence and while i habve you amd it only 10 more hp than dropping an Ls1 and the Lsq is far cheaper .. use an Autowith shiftkit and proper tc and Str numbers and you'll have a 1 second bird with basic bolt on's maybe a litrshot of Nos.. and all the parts you need will be cheap.. andfabrication for space ecu and what not is unnecessary..

your V10 is not a viper its a truck V10 orther is someting seriously wrong with it.. since Viper motors are handbuilt nd could never cost that low..

do some serious research..
as a mechanical engineer.. i'd put a z06 crate in.. that would be a tribute to what Gm should have done to the last year Firebirds especially the Ws6 or Firehawk

Sorry a V10 Bird.. thatslike the elephant man peole will look but they won'tadmire.not Gm guys thats for sure even ford guys would consider it a bastard .. and once you realize its a truck V10 not a Viper v10 you may chage your mid for 10 extr hpand ashit load of head aches

Mallet.. you'll need one

I can't even imagine how much fab work that would take, and how much it would cost. I cringe at the thought of how much it'd cost.

I like the idea of being original I've never heard of someone putting a V10 in a 'bird I think it would be kinda cool (....in a way) personally I can't imagine how much work it would take, not just to get it to fit in but to get the trans to bolt up (you'd need some kind of custom adapter) all that and to still make it look right. you got one hell of a challenge ahead of you bud. but if it was me I'd have looked for a big block chevy (454 or even 509  ) they Hooker make super comp engine swap headers just for that application and they are only about $600 (I say ONLY as compared to $2000 but $600 is still a shit load ;) ) I also think that the money you'd save by building a BBC instead of the V10 would leave you enough to make a BBC that would whoop ass on the V10 and would require far less modification. well that's just my 2 cents. I wish you the best of luck though and I'd love to see the pics of it if it ever gets finished.

Has anybody put a Pontiac motor in a new one? That would be nice, and for anyone who says it's a bad idea to slip a dodge V-10 in there...

Tell them it came with a chevy so it's already the wrong motor.
