98 Rodeo Issue with Coolant/Radiator

So I have this problem with 98 Rodeo...the other day as I was driving all of the sudden steam started coming out of my hood, I pulled over and popped the hood and noticed that the upper radiator hose which connects to the overflow tank had popped out of the tank along with the cap, and that was what was spraying the steam all over place, I let it finish steaming then put it back in place, continued to drive another 4 or so miles and it happened again. Not sure if it's a problem with the hose, the radiator, or perhaps the thermostat. Please let me know if any one has any kind of advice or has ever run into a similar problem. thanks.

check my thread and pictures I posted. My hoses were swelled up and about to burst. I did the thermostat hoses and radiator and new coolant it runs like a champ. Good chance your hose might be collapsed inside but it also sounds like your clamp is not tight enough on your radiator. Try a search for people with similar issues.
Good Luck.
re-read and saw you said over flow tank, but I would still check the same things I had to replace for functioning.

Unfortunatly the t'stat sucks to replace on the 3.2 DOHC. Its under the intake plenum and you have to remove that to get to the t'stat. The cap should vent off extra pressure though. I beleive its around 13 psi or so it should release.

It's 16psi on the 3.2L sohc engine radiator cap - just incase info's needed.

ramblin has a good point here. didn't see ecgash where you mention the cap. it's possible that is your problem. it functions to seal the radiator so it pressurizes and is able to maintain a higher temp without boiling; it also functions to serve as a pressure release valve both during operation and when you shut the vehicle off so it releases excess (expanded) coolant to the expansion tank, and then on cooldown opens to allow vacuum to suck in expansiontank coolant to refill the now 'unexpanded' coolant.
in addition to the radiator cap, it sounds like maybe you have a restriction in the expansion circuit hose to the tank since that whole thing blew.
anyway, it appears important from all accounts to use an oem radiator cap.
have you discovered anything yet?

I'd take the tank out and get rid of any sediments in it and make sure the nozzle from the reservoir isn't clogged.
