Anyone had this happen?

On my 90 hatch DX. After I shift in to 5th and it runs at 80mph for about 15/20mins. and it sounds like the rpms go up and it has shifted back into 4th then the check eng. lite comes on. I don't have a tach.:confused:

your throttle cable may be getting stuck open in 5th and hitting your rev limiter causing the sudden loss of power up top. as far as the CEL coming on, i know in my other cars the light will come on if you go into a red zone of a guage, but since you have no tach, you may be redlining it and not even knowing.

Sounds good thanks for the info. I thought the same a bout redlineing. I think i'll invest in a tach.
