Hi,
First time poster here. I have been watching all these great tutorials here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7VrmNM9A9Y
The modeler uses Finisher's GP1 to clear his models and it looks great! I did some research, and I think I'd like to try some GP1 and GP2, but can't find a place to get it from outside of Japan. Anyone know where I could track some down? Here's a link to it on a Japanese site:

It's quite hard to get hold of.I tried everywhere to get some and failed.I know Rainbow Ten stock it but it's in Japan.I don't know how you go about it being shipped overseas and weather it's classed as dangerous goods. Some companies won't ship paint products overseas because of this.

Same here. I live in Houston, and the package went through the customs in San Fransisco.
I didn't order the paint by itself, but I added it to a couple of kits. The package was shipped by SAL small packet, which is important, because EMS will always be a subject of inspection, while SAL is random.
Because Hobby Search only uses EMS, I'm guessing, that's probably why they don't ship paints overseas.

Wow, it seems like its quite difficult to get a hold of. Do you think the Gunze product would produce a similar result, or should I try for the Finisher's?
Thanks!
Thanks!

For me the GP1 set is the best you can get... it sprays really smooth (after some practice :licka:) and dries super clear and glossy.
The Zero 2k clear is pretty equal although I never used it on a body, only on some old parts for testing but that was really promising :smooch:

Thanks for the comments. Your Mercedes SLR is indeed great looking and virtually a mirror! Looks great. It seems like its worth the hassle to try and get the Finisher's clear...

I have used the Finishers regular Auto clear and this does spray extremely well but I found it takes a little while longer to dry than the Zero 2K stuff and is not as tough when dry either. But the Finishers GP1 is,if I'm not mistaken,a similar product to the Zero 2K whereas you mix it with a hardener and it chemically 'sets' instead of air drying. So I think they should be comparable products.
I can recommend the Zero 2k stuff.I have used it on quite a few builds recently and it is very good.If you spray it correctly you should almost get a finish straight from the airbrush with very little or even no polishing required, but it's all in the application.Correct thinning is important to suit your particular airbrush as well.
If you are dead set on trying the Finishers GP1 then I would have a go at getting some, otherwise the Zero 2K is IMO equally as good.Let us know how you get on with it if you do get hold of some,I'd be very interested to know what you think of the GP1,as I have only ever heard good things about it myself, but have never used it either.

I just wanted to report back and say that I just got my first batch of GP1 from Rainbow Ten.
It shipped SAL, which was very reasonably priced, and it took about 2 weeks to arrive. They declared it as "unassembled plastic models" by their own accord.
All in all, it was a good transaction and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Hi, Just one quick question for all of you who use GP1/GP2. What kind of solvent I should use to clean my airbrush after I use GP1/GP2? Acetone or ordinary thinner? I got a set of GP2 while I was visiting Japan last year but don't want to ruin my airbrush because of wrong solvent to clean it. Btw, I order Finisher's paint directly now from its dealer in Japan (located in Ueno). They got a website actually. I was visiting their main store and the owner was very nice.

Well, I haven't tried the GP series clear yet, but, I had used the Auto Clear a couple of times with awesome results. Last time(about 2 weeks ago) I use the Auto Clear and it was sanded the next day I airbrushed it and polished real nice with Polishing pads and Tamiya Fine compound.
A question, does anyone here had tried that compounds from Finishers?, the Japanese guy just used a 2000 sandpaper and it got a perfect glossy finish. I guess he used to diferent ones.
Here are a couple of pictures of my model using Finishers Auto Clear, House of Colors Euro Red under coat:

Beside GP2, I did get the auto clear and the compound sets from Finisher's. I can tell you, their compound sets work very great. I have tried both tamiya and Finisher's and do a comparison. Finishers has a better finish. But the guy from Finishers told me that I have to stick with the sets -> that means I cannot use coarse and fine compound from Tamiya and then apply the finish from Finishers. My conclusion is -> even though it's a little bit pricey but it's worth the value.

Yes I used it and it is just as good as the clear itself! I usually don't use any sandpaper, I start with the coarse compound which is even able to remove slight orange peel and as soon as you get a nice smooth surface I move on with the finer grits.

I think your question it's regards the kind of thinner to use cleaning the airbrush using Finisher's GP clear. I hadn't used them, but, I had used PPG Urethane clears and like with any paint, I used regular big can cheap thinner without any problem.
