Hi guys,

I have a 93 with a 3.8 thats aged approx. 230000m

after the vehicle warms up and is driven for maybe 25m, it seems as if the rpm band is "cutoff" with a really bad stall around 3000rpm. the problem gets noticeably worse the longer it is driven and seems to come up the band to almost 1800rpm.

it also idles rough, (almost like it has a mild racing cam in it),

just changed a burnt fuel pump and did the nornal maintenance:
plugs
wires
air filter
pcv valve
oil and filter change
and checked the transmission fluid (looks fine)
fuel filter

any help would be greatly appreciated

I googled this:

DTC - 36 MAF sensor error

DTC - 36 24x Crankshaft position sensor circuit error

DTC - 39 Clutch switch circuit

Hope this helps

Read carefully the consequnces of dtc36: gear choice is limited to 1/2 or 3/4 depoending on failure. SInce you made no reference to such problem, please retest codes or provide more details.

WIll this happen at highway speed or in neutral? THere is indeed a 3000 rpm cutoff in neutral..but it should not impair normal operation in drive...unless the computer thinks you are in neutral....WHy it would lower the limit to 1800 is ???
Poor idle can be caused by failed EGR valve....but this would probably pop dtc 53-54-55-56
