`98 Protege o2 sensor location?

I have a `98 Protege 1.5L DX (I believe it is the DX with the 1.5L) with 164k on it.

1. Well recently had the CEL come on and it threw a code concerning the O2 sensor located after the catalytic converter. The problem I am having is that I can't find it! I have a manual for a '96 Protege which shows the location of the sensor right before the presilencer but when I get underneath the car, this is not the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated as to where the second O2 sensor is located..

2. My second problem involves the brake lights. When the headlights are on, the tail lights turn on. As soon as I press the brake pedal, they turn off and only the center tail light turns on. Any ideas? :banghead:

I have a 99 and they did a lot of major changes during the model year change. I'd find the two plugs for your O2 senors (where they connect to the harness), they should both be clipped beside one another on a support. Follow the wires back for the rear sensor. With the 99 the front sensor is on the exhaust manifold and the rear sensor is on the pipe coming off the catalytic converter. The pipe is directly below the engine and the splash guards have to be removed to see it.

Thanks for the response. It turns out that my eyes were playing tricks on me. The location is the same for the '99 and '98 model Proteges for the o2 sensor.

PROBLEM NUMBER ONE ANSWERED. ON TO #2:
THE LIGHTS ARE OUT!! ...... NO, WAIT, NOW THEY'RE ON......WAIT......

I WOULD SAY YOUR BEST BET IS TO TRACE THE WIRES FROM THE LIGHTS TO THE FRONT AND CHECK FOR A GROUNDED WIRE.IF NOT, I WOULD SAY CHECK YOUR RELAY. IT MIGHT BE BROKE NO GO.

Make sure you have the right bulbs and make sure they're installed right. Also check the sockets that the bulbs go into. I've found more problems when new lenses are installed and the socket on them is bad. This usually kills the fuse though. You may try removing bulbs or sets of bulbs to see if it can help with narrowing the problem. It sounds like you're right about a short being somewhere though.
