Unusual Application

I'm doing an install and the guy I'm doing it for asked for something that I'm not sure exists. He wants everything to remain relatively stock in the interior, but wants all of the aftermarket stuff, including the head unit, installed in the trunk. He then wants a controller for the head unit installed on the floor next to the driver. Now, I talked to a car audio guy here in town who knows his stuff, and he's never heard of anything like this. I was wondering if anyone here has ever heard of such an application, or else I'll have to do some negotiating

Never heard of it either, but doesn't sound impossible. Just some custom work and really long wires I guess. Just curious what vehicle?

I have actually done this before, it was CD changer only and the remote was mounted near the sun visor. Another option is to hardwire a cable to the gold contacts on the CD player and the detachable face, mount the CD player chassis in the trunk, run the wire to the front - you c an mount the face anywhere you want. A 3rd option is to mount the CD player up front behind a very lightly tinted piece of plexiglas and just use the remote to control the stereo.

if u want to be slick with it, u do use a rockford 360.2 and mount a wireless pda where he wants the controller since the 360 uses a pda for the controller

Never heard of it either, but doesn't sound impossible. Just some custom work and really long wires I guess. Just curious what vehicle? It's a 1968 Dodge Dart. Not a bad little vehicle. And yeah, one of the guys at work had suggested a CD changer, but I'm not totally sold on the idea. Running the faceplate up to the front doesn't sound very thrilling either. And the Rockford setup is gonna be just a little out of the range of this install. The plexi is an interesting one. How exactly does that work? Thanks for all of the input, by the way

well, if you do the plexi thing, you will still need a changer. It doesn't take much of a tint to completely hide the face, and the IR on the remote will go right thru it.
