thats weird..... when a tranny goes, normally its reverse that goes first..... that being said, im not a trans guy by any means, i paid a guy to build mine for me.
but it would seem to me that if you have reverse, and the car moves, your clutches and bands are transferring power, which means i would guess (definatly just a guess) that something is wrong in your valve body. there are a helluva lot of check balls and springs and little things that can go wrong. maybe something is stuck somewhere, not allowing pressurized fluid to get to the rest of the tranny. The good thing here is that if it is just the valve body, it should be a relatively cheap fix. The valve body can be removed with the tranny still in the car i believe. If it were something else, say the fluid pump, the whole tranny needs to be removed. But dont quote me on that. the tranny might have to be upside down now that i think of it, and that would require its removal.
hopefully someone with some more experience will be able to pipe in here.

thanks for the info.
I'll drain the trans. oil tomorrow and see how it looks. to see if I can get more info on it it's self.

thanks for the info.
I'll drain the trans. oil tomorrow and see how it looks. to see if I can get more info on it it's self. Definitely do that first. I always suggest changing the fluid and filter first before digging too deep. A similar incident happened to my old managers Malibu. The only gear that worked was reverse. So there in the parking lot, I dropped the pan, and changed the filter out and put some new fluid in. Worked fine afterwards as if nothing had happened. Just make sure to cycle the gears before going for a test drive. Just move it from Park, to Reverse, Neutral, Drive, 1, 2, 3 (depending on what gears you have on your console). Leave it in each gear for a few seconds and cycle through the gears at least 2 times.

the previus owned had changed the oil and filter to the trans. but that havent changed anything. but he said that the old fluid almost looked like burn motor oil that it looked dark and thick. so I am thinking it might have clogged some lines or something. is there anyway to flush a transmission? and how?
thanks
thanks

More than likely, it has fried the forward clutches. If the fluid came out burned, it's gonna take more than a "service". Electronically controlled transmissions of this type can have failures when a solenoid or "switch" goes bad, not allowing proper "channeling" of the fluid. Inadequate pressure gets to the clutch pack, and it slips, eventually cooking it.
I'd bet, if you pulled the pan, there will be more debris in there, and the fluid will be black agian.
Sorry dude, but a rebuild is in your future. Make sure the shop is familiar with computer-controlled transmissions and they test EVERY switch!

take the tranny out buy a banner kit should be arround 70 bucks, a new band 20 buck (hd version), the 3-4 piston (that one kill my tranny twice) 20 bucks, a few beers and a friend that knows how to rebuild trannys, and you are good to go, honestly rebuilding a tranny its nothing from other world you just need a good internet source a lot of patience and a clean space to do it

thank you guys for all the info. I went to the trans. shop mechanic told me that the cluches are not good anymore and that the oil smiled burned. he recomended me to rebuild it. I told him to do so and install a shift kit. he will change all the switches all cluches and install shift kit for $700 dollars. I priced a tranny at a junk yard will cast me $650 dollars. the mechanic works at a college he is a teacher in mechanics.
so what do you guys thik I am I being charged too much or is it the right price for doing all that?
thanks again for the help.
