Hi,

Have a 1999 Alero, 3.4 with 145,000kms

Car seems to be really hard on gas lately, wondering what I should get changed/fixed in a tune up.

Car sometimes has a little trouble starting unless I give it a shot of gas, then it seems to run fine. No check engine lights or anything on.

What type of maintence should be done on this car at 145,000kms.

Brakes/suspension just inspected everything is fine there.

Thanks

Time for new spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, air filter, maybe serpentine belt, maybe trans fluid change, radiator flush if not already done...look in the owners manual at the maintenance schedule, see what it says.
Track your mileage for real, don't just estimate it. Then you will know for sure when the mileage changes a lot, which will help you fix the problem.

Got all of that done. Car seemed to be working great again.

Car is now having similar intermitient starting issues, cranks, starts and stalls right away, unless I give it a shot of gas for a few seconds.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Possible issue with a relay or something?

Also, another issue with another car since the members on here seem to be fairly mechanically inclined.

Friend has a 95 Neon, after replacing the starter on the car the thing wants to crank and turn over as soon as the key is in the on position, you do not actually need to turn the key and crank it like normal, car instantly starts to crank as soon as the key is turned one notch.

Any ideas on that?

On the start ups, might consider having your fuel system flushed also.
GM does recomend it at certain intervals which IMO does help keep your fuel clean , dirt can clog your injectors so they wont fire right causing all sorts of issues.

Cleaning your throtle body(TB) and idle air control(IAC) port wouldnt hurt either. Here is a link that might help with the IAC cleaning.
Idle Air Control(IAC) Testing Replacing/cleaning (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=663849)

Not sure about your second question, though it sounds like the wires are crossed on the starter or a bad ignition switch.
Might post something in the Dodge Neon forums (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=143).

Hope that helps.

Got the Neon fixed. It was an old car starter causing trouble. Toasted.

Anyway, I'll look into the fuel system, etc. See what I come up with.

Thanks
