e30 318 missfire

hello. i have an 84 318i which is giving me alot of problems. ive done everything i can think of and still it misses. ive changed the cap, rotor, and plug wires. it ran fan for a while. 4 days ago it started sputtering and stalling. so i changed my plugs finally. (been really busy lately.) that seemed to make it worse. so i decided to clean my o2 sensor. it ran amazing! until i took it for a road test. i brought it home and it immediatly started running terrible again. sometimes the it wont go past 4.5k rpms. sometimes it redlines like normal. i have no idea where to go with this. it could be compression. it could be fuel delivery. im just not sure. has anyone had similiar problems?

hey linchpin, i have a 85 318i and its been sitting for about a year and i finally got off my but and started to work on it, it started to do the same thing and i changed the plugs and it ran fine for a while, but sometimes when i start it it runs on 3 cyl seems like, then it clears it self out. when you took the plugs out were they wet with gas? it may be a weak coil, just guessing, hopefully we can find out what the deal is with these old girls, i love my beemer :)
