Ok, so I am back around the forums from a little break i have had from the internet.. But anyway, im going to need you guys/girls to help me out with this. Seeing as i dont know a whole lot about cars (yet) im going to need some advice. I want to make a high revving engine, i plan on rebuilding everything that has to do with the motor, or buying new parts to fix it :P So im going to need a list of what you guys think i need, Right now im looking to get 500-600 hp out of it. Can i use a 2nd gen tranny with a 1st gen motor?

Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated, and dont forget to Copy/Paste
the list.. that is is anyone helps out
Anyway.. lets make a list of the things i need

*= must have
+= will help in the long run, and anything else that will "Beautify my car" ;)

Motor
* Eagle rods and pistons
*Crank Shaft

Tranny is about shot, no second gear, my synchro's went out :'(

I think you need to think this all through a bit more before jumping into it. First off, 500-600hp is not a so easily reached goal. It will be a lot of work and a lot of money if you do it right. I'm sure you can reach that goal with a lot less than I spent on mine, but the question will be how long until your weakest link breaks. Hence why I did mine right and did everything and anything I needed to. If you are wanting a list separated with "must need" and "will help later on" items, then you will not be reaching your 500-600hp goal anytime soon... Take a look into my build thread and check out the first post with my list. That list is going to be about a 400-450hp build with my 18g. If I swap out the turbo for a bigger one and change a few other things then I'm sure I could easily reach 500+hp, but that wasn't my goal. There won't be too many other cars around that can touch a 450hp car so easily. And even more so in the 4 cylinder class...

Are you planning on putting this into a 1g or 2g dsm? The 6 bolt motor will bolt up to a 2g tranny, you need to use a 6 bolt flywheel and clutch though...

I think you need to take a look into your bank account before you do anything else and see if you have $10,000 to throw at this project, because that's what it's going to take to get anywhere close to 500hp, especially if you're going with all new parts.

MAJOR NEEDS:
Good block
crank
weisco/j.e pistons
crower/pauter rods
255 fuel pump
dsmlink
1000cc injectors
ALL new gaskets
race cams (272's or the like)
new lifters
ss valves (oversized if you like spending money)
gt-35r or comprable
ARP head studs and rod bolts
FMIC

And that's just the main components, with tons of smallers ones as you get deeper into the project. I think you should do a price list of all those parts and try to get a view of what you're really getting into.

well, I was going to have my friend buy the parts for me since he is a mechanic, he said he can get them for a cheaper price? anyway, i know its not going to be easy, and in the next 2 years, money will not be an issue... i have a good $15,000 so yeah.. but a guy was telling me he could build me a 6 bolt engine capable of holding 500+ hp for 3-4k$ is any of that true?

And its going in a 2g talon

As pure motor internals, yes it is possible for it to hold about 500hp for around 4-6k. But you have to consider everything else that is needed to support and produce that 500hp... I think my internals are good for 600hp... I can't remember the exact amount, but I have all my receipts in a folder. I'm kind of scared to add everything up. :uhoh: :(

lol you wanna add if up for me? or PM me some estimates? i would really like to see how much you spent, and i would like to know how much i would have to spend :P

I might add it up sometime... I'd almost rather not know how much I have spent on it and how much other stuff I could have bought with that money instead...

Accidents happen...

2nd gen trannys are awesome for around town and shift beautifully compared to the 1gs. But when it comes to pushing more power, I wouldn't suggest running a 2g tranny. They're not as strong.

I'm running a 2g tranny in my 1g, but I'm only pushing 350hp. So I'd def look into getting a built 1g tranny.

But he is putting it into a 2g... And you can't use a 1g tranny in a 2g body as far as I know. Remember that the 1g tranny doesn't have a rear motor mount, so that kind of puts into question whether or not it can be made to work still.

So what do all the guys running 2gs with higher HP do? Get like a rebuild w/ double syncos like the 1g guys do?

Estimates? It could be a $3k difference between estimates depending on exactly what parts you want. I've got a motor/tranny combo sitting in a crate capable of 600 hp without the turbo and manifold that I paid $5000 for and got a GREAT deal on it. Just that motor would have cost me about $8-9k to build. And that doesn't include any supporting mods within the car itself.

I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to tell you not to do it, but we get people here all the time that say I've got this much $$, I want a 10 sec. car, what do I need? Honestly, if you're asking what you need to build a car like that, you dont' have the experience to handle the HP, and you've got alot of reading to do to understand why and how all the parts work.

There's a few great articles on DSMtuners about specific performance upgrades (there's and EXCELLENT camshaft thread), and howstuffworks.com is great for explaining the general mechanical workings of a car.

well yeah, i wasnt trying to be like, i have this much moeny, i want a fast car. Its more like, i love cars, dont know alot about them, and want to learn more about them while my friends that do help/teach me. (if that makes any sense)

@kittay i know what the guys with 2g Talons do... They send their trannys to Jon Shep and have HIM build it up for them ^.^

TRE and Dogbox Racing also rebuild trannys. The trannys are pretty much identical, the internas are interchangeable between the 1g and 2g casings, it's just the 1g is built stronger from Mitsu.

But anyway, since i have time to learn somethings... does anyone know of any good articles online that i could read that would enlighten me and my understanding of working on cars?:)
