So I Own a 98 camry le v6 with only 80k miles on it. I wanted to step up and do my own oil change. Ive been reading the difference between 10 weight and 5 weight. I live in texas. Its warm most of the time. Actually cold this week:(
Neway. Which one do you think I should use. Also which brand. some of my friends have said mobil 1 synthetic? Whats the advantage to synthetic? Or valvoline?

thanks

Evan

The most obvious difference between dino oil and synthetic is your ability to change the oil less often. You can double or more the mileage you accumulate between oil changes.

Some brands are better than others, but I doubt there is enough difference between brands of synthetic oil to matter. Mobil1 and Pennzoil are my recommendations, but there is nothing magic about them.

Use the weight of oil recommended in your owner's manual.

I think the v6 is a 1MZ-FE motor. If so, it has been approved by Toyota for 5w-20 oil. Its second from the bottom on the following thread, post #59

I've been running semi-synthetic in my vehicles for years, usually Valvoline DuraBlend or MaxLife or Mobil 7500. I haven't owned a vehicle pricey or hi-tech enough to warrant full synthetic and it's higher cost.
