Remote Starter Tach

I hooked up a remote starter to a 99 Alero 2.4L.

The book tells me that the Purple/White wire at the ignition coil is the Tach wire for the remote starter. However the unit doesn't seem to be picking it up.

I tested it with a voltmeter and it is putting out an ac voltage.



Is this the Tach wire?

I thought you could not use them b/c of the chip in the key?
