Motor Swap?

I have a 91 caprice with the 305. Would it be much more difficult swapping in a corvette engine then it would be the impala ss engine. I know they are the same engine but are all the electronics and everything about the same.

The iron head LT1 is actually a better fit for your car than the aluminum Vette head motor is, due to cam timings, etc.

I just had an LT1 put in my 94 Caprice..
I so need to update my sig.. Though my motor swap involved a tranny swap too..
Power, so much more power!! XD (and gas usage :( )

It will be a very time consuming project.
If you do go for the lt1, the Caprice/wagons, roadmaster, Impala, Fleetwoods from 94-96 all have the same engine. Also the vette motor isnt as good as it sounds, the cam is made for a car much lighter than our 4400lbs beasts.
We need the tq down low to get moving. If you plan on doing a cam, the vette motor may not be a bad deal....DEPENDING ON PRICE ;)

Ehh, some 94 Caprice's have an L99, and not an LT1.

You are correct, and I could have said it better in my first response. But the point I was trying to make is that he/she can broaden there search to more than one car :)
And also, wagons have been know to have L99 in them, too :)

personally, if i had more funds, id do a corvette motor with 4.11's and a six speed, but that wont be easy.
i doubt that the torque difference will make THAT big of a drivability issue unless you are really pushing it.
and the extra top end will surely help out for when you do...

I found a local listing on craigslist, the posting was as shown: "350 Chevy engine 4 bolt main, runs good. $250 OBO" im still a beginner at all this, what is "4 bolt main"?

On a '4 bolt main' block, the middle three main caps (2,3,4) have outer bolts as well as inner bolts. The outer bolts are about an inch or so shorter than the inner two bolts.
A two bolt block doesn't have these outer bolts.
The factory 4-bolt blocks might be a little stronger than two bolt blocks for high RPM use. If you're not going to spend considerable time over around 5500-6000 RPM, the two bolt block is strong enough.

FYI the cam in the vette is meant for a car 1000 lbs lighter.
They make the same tq, but the tq curve is different.
The car will be more of a dog out of the hole...

yes, but gearing can make up for it.
im a bit tired of people dogging the corvette engine.
not that i take it personally, but it still will outpreform any 305 and if someone has one, its a good motor and i'd put it in.
now given the choice, id go for a fuel injected towing ready 350, but we dont always get our first choice.
...

Actually with boltons and tuning the Vette and b-body motors make similar peak numbers. I have wondered if the Vette and f-body motors got weak lowend torue to try and save their relatively weak axles.
An L99 to LT1 swap is easy, a TBI to LT1 not so much.

A quick solution to eliminate the dogging off the line with a vette engine in a heavy car would be a high stall torque converter to get the engine closer to it's "power band" at lower vehicle speeds.
