What would cause tranny to run fine cold and as soon as it warms up gears go out?

My first thought would be plugged filter. How long of a drive time before you start loosing gears?

about 5 minutes, i turn the car off and restart it and it'll run ok for a couple more minutes..It's like it resets something..Pressure control solinoid? i don't know

Possible or maybe not. Get it scanned with a trans capable scanner meaning one that can properly read tranny DTCs and GM extended DTC codes. See if a P1811 DTC is stored which will not give off a SES/CEL light.

When was the last tranny service? ATF and screen filter.

I really don't think its the PCS. The PCS should not make it neutral completely. How long of a time do you sit with the key off?

I can turn it off and right back on, and it'll change gears, It's kind of like it resets something. But the drive time gets shorter

have you found any solution to this problem jrshardt? (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=547602)

i have a 95 grand prix with 199,000km and i would really love to see it roll over to 200,000 but it has just developed a tranny problem almost identicle to this. after about one hour of highway driving, i lose 4th gear compleatly, otherwise the tranny is working fine.

just like with jrshardt (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=547602), turning the car off and then back on seems to reset things, and allows me to go into 4th gear for a short time, then the problem returns.

Like was mentioned clean fluid/filter is a great way to help your trans last a long time. I don't know a whole lot about transmissions but I'd check the fluid and see if its black/brown and what it smells like. It should be red and shouldn't smell burnt.

If it is I'd change the fluid/filter and add a bottle of auto-rx.
