oK, the car does not like rain, please help...

well i found out today that the car doesn't handle like i thought it would on slick roads, i was driving home and i started to slow down to take a turn, brakes locked up, couldn't free them in time and i hit the mediam curb with some force. Drove the mile maybe that was left, and so far i know the alignment is way off, its shooting towards the right. there is also a kind of squeeling squeeking noise that comes when i take a right turn. And when i got into the parking garage and took a look at the wheels, they are fine but hte passenger front wheelis pointing somewhat out when the driver side it straight forward so looking down on the wheels they are like // || but not that drastic. So i'm gonna try to get her into the shop tomorrow, but what does it sound like i did to any of you?

I swear, i have the worst luck with cars.... sigh...:(

maybe bent arms, or busted bearings, or both?

could be a broken axle also.

ah man, don't say that one... could it be broken and only one side jacked up? I told another friend of mine and he said it sounds like the control arm too... I'm gonna take it in soon, but how much do control arms cost and could i do it myself or check it myself?

Hey dude...if there are broken parts like that (except for the axle) I would get them from a junkyard. New parts from a parts store are generally not OEM, and they are way too frickin' expensive.

Another option is parts from www.hondaautomotiveparts.com - they are about the cheapest place I can find to get OEM Honda parts.

well heres what i know, my friend was driving around in the rain at about 10mph around a turn skidded, hit the curb, about 5" high, and broke almost $900 worth of suspension parts.

Chances are you have done something simular..

If the Axel was broken, you would not be able to move due to the differential in the Transmission. The broken axel would just spin freely.

I am not too sure what the setup is like with a Civic, but there is also the remote possibility that you bent a Tirod..

Whatever the case, take the car to a shop, get it looked at, and hope it isn't too bad :)

i was doin about 35-40 slowing down, kissed the curb ;but also turned in with it... and did over 1,500 suspension damage w/ labor... wish i would fixed it myself though...

well i hit CarDoc today, they said the upper control arm on the passenger side is bent, and tie rod on the driver side is going bad (but said they didn't think it occured with this) and the wheel broke... The wheel is missing like a 6 inch by 1/2 inch section of the lip on the backside of the wheel, i'm gonna go get some pics of that later. Also with the control arm, my brother said he thinks it was already going bad, so I'm wondering if there is actually something else wrong that they couldn't catch in their visual inspection before. they did say that doing the alignment could show something else being wrong, but they wouldn't know until then.
But i was wondering how hard is it to change the upper control arm and tie rods on the 4 door? i know tie rods on the Ford Tempo is not hard at all, so i was hopin both projects i could do myself, since parts coming from CarDoc would be 158.10 for the arm and 71.78 for the tierod, and labor would be a total of 196.24 with an alignment (66.28). So total they are wanting 452.55, which is alot of money... Lemme know what you all think.

i think with an accident like that you need to get the car on a frame rack to make sure every thing is straight...

ok i bought the control arm this morning, came out to 93.something shipping, it'll be here in 3-5 days... I like the site i got it from http://www.cordelforeignmotors.com/ much better price on this than at hondaautomotiveparts.com, the shipped price was less than honda auto's part price :) So the question now is how hard is it to change out the control arm? i'm probably gonna get my tie rods done with this too, i jsut don't know if the problem if the inner or outer.
please, any help from you all with anything would be greatly appreciated

well i just got ever luckier today. I called a Pep Boys in Duncanville, TX (where my girlfriend lives and is visiting this weekend) and they just happened to have 4 of the wheel i am needing (old stock i guess b/c they aren't even in their computer, just laying there on the aisle). SO 54.11 later, i have a new wheel. So beginning of this week i'm gonna go get the tire put on and have 4 rims again. Also got my brother's Chilton Manual in the mail so I have some reference to go off of. Thought I'd post some pics of everything.

Here is a picture of the right control arm, the bad one. If you look carefully you can tell that the top of it is slightly crooked.

NO i do, actually i dont really have bad luck, i just cant drive. First i hit a fire hydrant with my van, then i hit the back of my friends del sol, then last night i wasnt paying attention and rubbed against a wall on the bridge, luckily all that got messed up was my door molding and the outter lip of my rims (wasnt that bad, plus that were already messed up a little and i have new rims sitting right to me). As far as bad luck i've had to resolder my main relay in my old crx and my car just died today in the middle of an intersection, had to get my step dad to use the minivan to push my car up the hill i was at the bottom of, and now i gotta put in a new alternator. So u might not have the worst luck, hell, could've been a lot worse, u could've found out ur can doesnt handle well in the rain by goin head on with another car, that would've sucked a lot.

EDIT: I swear, I have pretty damn bad luck with cars, tho it could be worse.... sigh...

upper control arms r easy to replace, should take u like 20 mins to do it, unbolt it from the shock tower, take ur wheel off and unbolt the 2 bolts where theres a cover covering the nut for the ball joint, undo the nut for the ball joint, hit the end of the ball joint with a hammer till it comes out then slide the whole assembly down and take off the little thin piece of metal going around on the back side of the control arm where those 2 studs r that go into the shock tower, slide it out, reverse the operation and its in, careful when u tighten the bolts for the ball joint nut cover, just lightly snug em up, i accidentally snapped on off but it still holds.

hope this is helpful, if u want an illustration of it I can go out and take a pic of my old control arms, (yes its been a month or 2 since i did this but hey.. its the first major thing i did... gotta keep some memories eh?) :)

actually that should help alot. i have the chilton's manual by my side now too, so whatever i need help on from your instructions i should be able to find out from there. But i am glad to hear that it is an easy job. i want to do the tie rods with this job, but i dunno which tie rod s bad, inner or outer, how can i find this out?

thats good that what i explained will help :) but about tie rods... never done them and dont know shit about em lol sorry bud
