Firefox issues?

I'm currently using the most up to date version of Mozilla Firefox browser, version 2.0.0.11 . Lately, within the past few days, I have received an error message that it has encountered a problem and needs to close( this happens on a daily basis, sometimes 2 or 3 times). I click to close it and then I can immediately resign back on through my desktop icon ( I can restore my last session and get back to where i was prior to the error message popping up.) My question is this, I have never experienced anything like this in any of the other previous versions of Firefox. Has anyone else experienced this occurance while using this version?

I'm using the same version as you under vista and haven't had a single problem with it. Have you checked your system for spy/adware and viruses maybe one of them is causing the problem with it.

Try disabling all add ons (called safe mode) for a few days. If it stops crashing, it must be a plugin. Then, enable plugins one by one until you work out which one it is.

The only add on I'm currently using is the ad block which I just added when AF started putting ads on the left side to block those. The problem with Firefox started occurring before I added this add on. I will disable it temporarily and see what happens.

If disabling the add on doesn't work which doesn't sound like it will try downloading the setup file again, then uninstall and reinstall firefox to see if that fixes it as maybe during the last update it got messed up while updating and corrupted one of the files.

Why not switch your AF view to premium? Ditch the ad block plug in.

The other possibility is a corrupt Firefox profile.

UPDATE: I disabled the Adblock and tried it for awhile and still had the problem. So I uninstalled Firefox and re- downloaded a new copy. Everything went fine for awhile and then it happened again. My next step is to try and contact Mozilla about this issue and see what they have to say. I might also take a peek at their forums to see if this problem has been discussed before I contact them.

That will be my next step now that you bring up the subject again. I clicked on the link you provided in your previous post and read up on it. It seems time consuming, so I'll probably do it over the weekend. Question, if I delete my profile does that mean I also lose all my bookmarks and passwords? Or, if I back them up as directed I can still use them? I have well over 100 bookmarks I've accumulated over the years and countless passwords to site's I use regularly, and I'd hate to lose them . If I create anew profile, can I import the passwords and bookmarks to my new profile? I don't want to attempt this if it will cause further issues for me. Thanks.

It shouldn't be too difficult - just export your bookmarks to a file somewhere. Password I'm not sure about, but with some googling, I'm sure there's a way. Then just close Firefox and delete the profile and everything in it. When you re-open firefox it should create a new one. (BTW, I haven't tried this, so make no guarantees - more educated guesses). :)

Oz, although I haven't had the time to do all of the things you suggested, I have noticed something which is peculiar. I haven't noticed it earlier, but lately I have been paying more attention to when it occurs. It only occurs when I am checking my Yahoo email account. I sent a request to them to look into the issue and hopefully they will respond soon as I suspect something is occuring between Yahoo and Firefox to close the browser.
In the meantime I am also using Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 2 with good results. They have changed some of the features in this newer version which look pretty good. If anybody wants to download it to try it out I got it here: www.filehippo.com .
