1999 Geo Metro will not reverse.

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Geo Metro with an automatic transmission. Last night I started to notice it wouldn't reverse. When I would put the gear into reverse, and step on the gas it would not move. It sounded as though it was in neutral, but was in fact in reverse. I checked the transmission fluid, and that was okay. My brother assumes it may be that my gears have grinded down, or that my transmission is kaput. I am able to park it, and drive it though. Any help?

I would have to go with your brother on this and say that you probably ground down the reverse gear. So what you would want to be thinking about next is do I want to replace that gear, am I fine with it and I'll just push the car backwards, or is it time to get a replacement car because I don't want to deal with it anymore? If you wanted to be sure that it's a grinded gear or your transmission went south I would suggest taking it in. But I would only do this if you plan on keeping the car and you want to diagnose what the problem is so you can continue to cruise around in your geo.
