N/A Plenum Question

I have two actually... :p

1-I noticed that there was some type of seal around the brake booster when I unscrewed it...what was that gooey stuff and where do I get it? I think it's the same type that is used throughout the rest of the plenum...I'm assuming to prevent air leak?

2-how do you "install" the VIC motor back on? There's some type of butterfly valve "thingy" inside which needs to be lifted open, right? I know when I pulled it off I heard something close inside so I think I have to keep it twised to keep it open or something!?!

Thanks for the help.

-BTW, my parts are coming back after being CHROMED!!!!!!!!!!

the brake booster valve is a pipe thread (tapered thread) wrapped in probably teflon tape.

as for the VIC motor, re-installation takes some trial and error. orient the motor upwards vertically, insert into plenum, and rotate 90 degrees to the left until it stops. if you inserted the motor in the correct position, when you finish rotating it, the bolt holes will line up. if not, repeat until the bolt holes line up.

it is important that you insert the VIC motor vertically and rotate to the left. this sets the motor to the closed position as it needs to be below 3000 rpm.

its not very hard to re-install. just takes a few tries. good luck.

Thanks Linebckr49. You need to come back over more often because we could really use your knowledge here.

As far as my car goes though, things are going to have to wait because my parts came back damaged.

The plastic piece of my plenum has been shaved flat on one side and I don't think the VIC motor would grip that area (I don't even have a VIC motor anymore because the shop acid dipped it :():

And holy crap, look what they did to the inside of my plenum:

I e-mailed the guy and he said it's "okay" but I spoke with Stealthee and a couple guys from 3SI and they said that the plenum's completely ruined.

Wait wait, there's more. I sent him my bolts/screws/washers to be chromed to a shine too and of the 74 pieces I sent him, I only got 66 of them back. He assured me that everything would be fine and they won't lose the pieces but WTF?

F*CK....what a way to start 2008....just when I thought this craziness was going to end....

he's telling you "everything will be fine" so that you don't take action and get your money back or have him replace the parts he broke. don't listen to him; take action immediately. include lots of pics and details, correspondence of emails and dates of phone calls. but don't be rash about it. rather be calm and collected and polite when airing your grievances, yet don't let him push you around.

sorry about that bad run of luck. the VICS gear is definitely toast. i've seen them worn flat like that on many other NA 3Ss b/c of improper installation. best of luck getting it all ironed out.

Linebckr49, do you know if it's at all possible to replace just the plastic piece? Or is it completely connected to the butterfly valves inside?

Man didn't you get screwed over by Midnight-Haze a while back too? Or was that the polishing company?

That's some bad luck.

^^Late Night Custom....yeah, I don't know what it is with my luck and these companies. I've just been really trying to detail my engine but maybe it's just not "meant to be..." :(
