looks like he's working in blue line first befor laying down anything hard.

I would guess he uses a light table like I do or some other transfer method. By going over your line work then transferring you can fix a lot. Now I could be wrong and he could be good enough to just whip out super clean lines without anysketching. I'm not that good though and I would use a transfer technique to try to achieve similar results.

I'm I close dude?

^ Probably the best method, but lot more work. I freehand most of my work, but of course by sketching out the car in couple of minutes and then outlining everything else. Everyone has their own style. :D

speaking of transferring, i use that when i want to practise shading and cant be a**ed spending ages on the outlines

Very close indeed.

I scale and print off the base image, tape down legal size copy paper over the image, plunk 'er down on my 3x6 light table (thank you IKEA!), go to it with the Col-erase blue (prefered over Verithin) and follow up with a fine point Bic GRIP.

What I like about using the non-repro blue, is that you can still drawthrough (thinking in 3D) while not creating a huge mess and losing time 'cleaning up'.
It's important not to simply trace, as your drawing will lose energy in the process.

All the items I use are for my 'normal' job, which is in the animation business...

A-ha! But who's hand is the heaviest??? Mine I compare to a good pot roast!

Here's a link ~> http://www.artcity.com/ebf-20028.html There are lighter ones as well...surely they must be available in Oz. If not, perhaps Verithins are available, however unlike the Colerase, they are not erasable.

OK, 3rd version. I've redesigned the front end around Nissan Murano headlamp units, not to mention, reshaping the rear fenders, keeping with a distinct Nissan flavour...
