Hi,
While driving at 65 I came to a stop the van felt like a manual trans still
in gear. With my foot on the brakes the van jerked forward and killed the engine. It started up just fine but then a noise like there are a bunch of loose parts rattling around coming from the torque converter area when in drive.
What could this be???????
I took it to the dealer they have not open it up yet. They tell me I could need trans at $2800. Is it worth trying to in stall a rebuild myself. Do I need
special tools?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Fred

I'm wondering if you have two problems - one are your tranny issues that I can't comment on.
The other, possibly the reason the engine kept trying to go when you had your foot on the brake was due to a bad throttle position sensor. I would try to pull off the TPS and test it's operation.

A sticking converter clutch will do that. It acts just like you were stopping with a manual trans and didn't push in the clutch.
Although it could be internal too.
